Chapter 2

Pov : Everest

I hugged Zeus tightly

He licked my face and I chuckled a bit. I finally asked “who were those guys?”

Emery opened her mouth to answer me but Lyra beat her to it “Drake and Alex!” She said cheerfully.

Emery seemed a bit annoyed but continued her sister’s sentence “don’t try sneaking up behind Drake... he gives a hell of a punch” she said, pointing to her black eye.

“And spoiler alert, Drake is mute and Alex is deaf, so you may have a hard time communicating with them” Emery then left. She seemed cold, the exact opposite of Lyra.

“Come on! Let me show you around the house!” Lyra said happily, grabbing my hand.

I just followed her, this was a lot to take in.

Soon after my little tour it was getting dark outside, drake and Alex had already fallen asleep on the couch after playing some games and Emery had gone to her room and was reading a book.

“You can stay in my room for the night?” Lyra offered. I hesitated before my- our, dad chimed in

“I’m sure she’d prefer to have some alone time.” He said. He left me to deal with my mother yet he’s saving my life.

“You can use Drake’s room for the night” he told me, pointing down the hall.

I walked down to his room, Zeus following me. I didn’t care if the puppy wasn’t allowed in the bedrooms, I was letting him stay with me either way.

March 12th, 1:45 am, 2021

I woke up to a door opening.

I saw that Zeus was asleep so I very carefully got up. He still woke up though so I just took him with me.

I went to see that whoever had snuck out was dumb enough to leave the door open. What a dumbass.

I walked outside, Zeus in hand, and saw a guy jogging away from the house.

It was either Drake or Alex. I could either take my chances and possibly get punched in the face by accidentally sneaking up on Drake or going back to bed.

I’ve been swimming with piranhas my whole life so why not.

I chased after the guy. “Hey!” I called out. He didn’t notice me. So I assumed the motherfucker who woke me up was Alex.

He’ll be lucky if he comes back alive.

I quickly caught up with him and tapped his shoulder. He jumped and stepped back. I stopped running and stared at him. I waved. He waved back. He looked surprised.

Well, he hadn’t noticed me earlier so I guess I should’ve expected this.

I got out my phone and started typing. I never learned sign language so notes would actually be helpful for once in my life.

He quickly got out his phone and held a finger up, signaling for me to hold on.

He typed something out. It read ‘don’t worry, I can read lips’

I sighed and started talking “I’m Everest, nice to meet you” I held out my hand.

He nodded in response and shook my hand.

“And you’re Alex I assume?” I asked him. He nodded once again. “Why are you out here?” He took out his phone and began typing.

‘I’m just going to see some friends’ I tilted my head a bit but soon just accepted it for what it was. “Okay then... bye” I said, jogging back to the house.

Oh look. Drake was standing there. Just great. He had an icy cold glare on his face.

“What’s his problem” I muttered to myself.

He started to sign something but obviously I didn’t understand. This bitch- assuming I know sign language-

“I don’t know sign language” I said. He sighed and grabbed out his phone. He typed for a bit before showing me his phone.

‘Where’s Alex, and where were you?’ I started to say where I saw Alex before I realized he probably wanted it a secret “one, I don’t know. Two, I was taking a stroll” I said, hugging Zeus a bit tighter.

I didn’t like Drake, from what I’ve seen so far. He made me nervous. He shook his head and went to lay back down.

I took this opportunity to run to Lyra’s room to see if she was awake. Surprisingly, yes.

“Oh! Evy! She said, standing up. “Do you need anything?” She asked me.

“Uh, not really, but I’ll take you up on that offer to stay in here. Drake just scared me a bit.” I told her.

“Okay! And he’s a scary person so I understand” she chuckled.

She laid out a mattress on the floor for me and we both went to sleep.

Well, I did.

I’m not sure about her as I heard lots of words I couldn’t understand coming from the tv with the occasional flutes and her crying a bit.
