Chapter two - the date
Saturday night, Laurence and Duncan were meeting at a fancy restaurant. She decided she wanted to go early and set off at 7:00. at about 7:30, she saw her true love's car drive into the parking lot, and she waited for him outside. They shared a typical greeting; a kiss on the cheeks, and a little hug. Waiting in line to go to their reserved table, they stood in awkward silence.
"So... you look..."
"You also look... amazing" Laurence replied nervously. Smiling at each other, they soon started a proper conversation.
Finally able to sit, they ordered drinks and started to talk about their jobs. Surprisingly, the topic was new to them and it was the first time they learned about each other's work. Duncan worked in finance and Laurence was a divorce lawyer which was a surprise to him. She said she believed in love, even though her work was divorcing people. Both had good-paying jobs and kept their work lives separate from their personal lives.
As for food, Duncan ordered pasta and Laurence ordered a steak. They ate and couldn't stop talking. The chemistry was so obvious. People around them asked them how long till they were getting married. Each time, they shared a smile and chuckled while telling them they had only known each other for a few days.
When the restaurant closed, they decided that they could share dessert at Laurence's apartment. Walking in, Laurence offered to show Duncan where some of the rooms were. Accepting the offer, they walked around and made jokes. Entering the kitchen, Laurence offered to make dessert.
"I can make a nice dessert if you want"
"How about we make one together?" Added Duncan, an enthusiastic expression radiating off his body.
"Ooh, good idea! Let's combine recipes, we can take the crust from my grandma's apple pie"
"My grandma made a raspberry pie, we can make the filling from that"
Smiling happily, they collected ingredients. Laurence blew into the flour and got it all over herself, both of them laughed as Duncan accidentally put his hand in the raspberry filling. They started laughing harder and stopped only to realize how in love they were. They kissed.
They didn't stop. They made their way to the bedroom, the bed covered in rose petals.
"Wow, look who put so much effort into a date with a guy she hardly knows" Duncan whispered. Laurence chuckled under her breath as they fell onto the bed.
A while later, they cleaned up the mess and just went out for ice cream. Duncan decided to drive home after they went back. He texted when he got back.
>Hey, I had a good time tonight, thanks for making the effort X
>I just thought it would make up for when I got you in trouble the other day X
They had a long conversation and eventually decided they were going to get some sleep.
In the morning, they said good morning and arranged to meet after work on Wednesday. They were just going to meet up for a while, nothing much. They had a fun time at a local cat cafe and kept in contact for the next few days over text.
