Break The Law

We were back on the road.

It was night by the time we got on the highway, on our way back to Greenwood, Indiana.

We had nearly been in Ohio for almost three days. Including the road trip there. As much as I liked being away from the chaos back home, we needed to go home.

The past couple of days I've been questioning what is my home? Is it the cell on the other side? My own house that I'm not at half the time. What if it's the HQ? Hell, what if it's Hazel's home?

My mind spiraled out of control, as I looked at the different car headlights and street light that flooded my eyesight.

Next to me was Jackson. His hands gripped on the wheel harshly as always.

In the backseat, were Eli and Zen who were passed out cold. Eli still had some blood on his shirt, though he would change once we got back into town.

Zen's head was on his shoulder, keeping each other warm. I narrowed my eyes at them, not sure what they were. They had just met, though Zen was willing to get fired, travel out of the state without any of his stuff, in a blink of an eye all because he trusted Eli enough.

Zen was human, and he was in the danger zone by being surrounded by witches and vampires. But I guess love is love..

"You're not sleeping." Jackson says softly. His eyes were still peeled to the road, though he could feel my eyes lingering onto him.

"Not tired I guess." I say to him. I couldn't help but smile at him. Besides all that happened today, I still had Jackson. We managed to fight off all of Crystal's minion in a heartbeat. It seemed like we were unstoppable.

"Ah," "Then I guess fighting all those sirens off at once did nothing to you?" He asks me. The tone in his voice was smoothing. Just the sound of it could actually help me fall asleep. I giggle, shaking my head. "Guess not."

Jackson turns his eyes off from the road for a second, to inspect my smile. He smiles back at me. The glimmer in his eyes was graceful. It relaxed me. "Not gonna lie. It was kinda badass." I break out into more laughter.

Every time he talked, fireworks seemed to go off in my stomach. It was one of the best feelings ever. It seemed like I could just stare at him all day, and never get bored. He was one of my favorite things.

"Stop.." I wrinkle my nose.

"Stop telling the truth?" He smirks and looks at me for a second. "I'd never," he adds.

I break out into more giggles, my chest slowly hurting from all of the pressure. I feel myself blush. I lean back in my seat, fidgeting with my fingers. "I'm just happy I'm with you again." I whisper lightly at him.

He pops his lips. From the corner of my eye, I noticed he took a little red himself. "Me too.." he says. His voice was raspy. "Me too."

The next morning I awoke to Eli now driving. Jackson was passed out in the backseat, next to Zen who was staring out the window. "Ugh. Are we in Indiana?" I mumble out.

I peer outside, trying to find any exit sign that could tell us where we are.

"We are, but we're a couple hours away from home. Ashley told me that if we're going to meet them, we have to go to Campsite Becker which is a campsite that Crystal owns. Everyone is there for some reason."

I groan at the name Crystal. Such a pain in the ass.

"Campsite? Since when did we navigate to a campsite? What happened while we were gone?" I question. He shrugs. "If I remember correctly before we left, word on the street was Xavier is after Luna." He explains. "But I mean--I don't know."

"What I don't understand is why are we helping Crystal and Luna after they tried to kill me?" I harshly ask.

Eli shrugs again, shaking his head. "Everyone just decides to follow Hazel. I'm not sure why Hazel operates the way she does. I'm not a mind reader." Eli pauses for a second before saying, "shit. I am."

I couldn't help but laugh. "Jesus you're dumb." Eli joins in on the laughter, "screw you. I am actually very smart. Call me dumb, but last I checked you fell in love with your kidnapper." He points a finger at me.

I laugh even harder, burying my face into my sleeve. "Don't remind me." I cringe. Eli raises his eyebrows at me. "Actually, I will, the man is in the backseat."

"What is happening now?" Jackson sheepishly asks, just randomly waking up.

"NOTHING!" Eli blurts.

"Oh--nothing at all." I laugh.

Jackson smirks, narrowing his eyes at both of us. "Sure thing, angelita." Eli almost falls through the windshield. My eyes widen.

He places his hands on my shoulders. "Good morning," he whispers into my ear, sending even more chills down my spine. "Morning..." I say slowly.

"Hm," he leans back and stares at Zen. "Eli is your boyfriend dead or alive?"

Eli looks at Jackson through the rear-view mirror, giving him the stick eye. "He's very much alive thank you very much. He's not like us who can go days without sleep if we're lucky. And he's not my boyfriend so..." his voice trails off. "Good morning to you too."

Jackson and I sneak smiles at each other. Getting good humor from teasing Eli who was currently driving.

Suddenly I get a text from Hazel.

Why is she texting me?

I open my phone to see the text message.

Hazel

Thankfully just found the poison to kill Xavier. Though he's on his way. We're not safe here, then neither are you if you're just getting into town. Hurry quick to the campsite if you want to survive.

"Lord," I mutter under my breath.

"What's wrong?" Jackson asks me. "Hazel just texted. She says that Xavier is on his way. Like really close. We need to drive faster."

Eli's eyes widened. "Miss I can't speed. I'm following a speed limit here--"

"FLOOR IT!" Jackson jokes.

"JACKSON!" I yell at him. "Don't encourage him!" He and Eli break out into laughter, trying to contain themselves. "I'm just kidding." I sigh and lean back in my seat. "Okay but actually we might have to break the law a little bit because I don't know about you, but I don't want to die a second time."

"ME EITHER!" Eli yells.

"WELL THEN BREAK THE LAW!"

"I DON'T WANNA BREAK THE LAW!"

"JUST DO IT!"

All this yelling causes Zen to suddenly wake up, and annoyingly yells;

"Just FUCKING BREAK THE LAW!"
