"good job y/n" mrs. lehay cooed. "you did an excellent job leading book club today. I'm super impressed. you're very talented as a leader!"
"thank you mrs. lehay", y/n said putting the last of the snacks away and grabbing her book bag. "see ya this time next week?"
"of course dear", mrs lehay said smiling. "although I have a feeling I'll be seeing you sooner than that. you sure you haven't read all the books in the school's library yet?"
"I'm working on it", y/n said exiting the library and throwing a wave over her shoulder.
y/n had been leading book club for the past two years and their membership had grown. the book club no longer consisted of just the resident high school wallflowers. some of the goth girls, a few anime kids, and two of the athletic girls had joined. all y/n had done, was expand the book review to include mangas and genres other than romance and vampire books.
she loved seeing people get excited about reading!
y/n popped in her earbuds and exited out of the school into the the frosty, Seattle air.
she was enjoying listening to her music so much as she passed the baseball field that she didn't even notice the cute, curly haired strawberry blond baseball player watching her. so, as it should, him running up to her caught her completely off guard.
"hey" he said kind of breathless from his jog. what's up?
she stopped wide eyed realizing it was vinnie hacker. everyone at school knew him as the "kid from TikTok". he had nearly 500k followers and had earned some serious clout at school. y/n hadn't even known he existed until a couple of months ago when the frenzy over him started. ashley smith had been complaining about all the girls on the softball team going gaga over him, and how annoying it was at book club one day.
"hey", she said giving him a shy smile and trying to step around him.
"whoa, whoa whoa", he said blocking her path. "where are you going?"
"home", she said confused.
"oh, well i just wanted to say hi and ask you a question. you're the president of the book club right?"
"yeah", y/n said, it coming out as more of a question than an answer.
"ashley smith is in your club. she said you guys are reading parasyte next?"
"oh yeah the manga" y/n said. "kitty cooper thought it would be a good read. a lot of heavy themes to discuss and not as much sex as berserk."
y/n mentally facepalmed herself for mentioning sex infront of the hottest boy in school.
vinnie laughed and blushed. "right", he said. "not as many, but just as graphic."
it was y/n turn to blush. good thing she was naturally tan.
