Chapter Five - Just Tell Me You Love Me

"Darlin', look at me," Jack muttered into his pillow.

I stay facing the ceiling. I can't talk right now.

"Alex," he says again.

This time I turn to him.

"Yes, Jack?" I more sniff than say

"I'm going to borrow the money from someone. I'll get the treatment. I'll be fine, I promise you." Jack's tone was level and paced as he spoke.

He must have practised saying this in his head. Those weren't Jack's words.

"Don't promise. Promises are easy to break. Just tell me you love me and I can deal with the positivity myself," I say.

A small smile plays over Jack's lips.

"I love you Alex."
