A small cabin was nestled in the depths of a thick, forested area. It was storming outside, a bitter cold wind howling against the trees and rain pulling at the leaves. In contrast, the cabin looked cozy and warm with just a few soft lights peeking through the shadows from the clouds above. It was here in this out of the way refuge that Jackie and Marvin were staying for the moment. It was safe and quiet, a much needed break from their chaotic lives and the dangers associated with them.
Rain pattered gently against the window creating a noise that filled the quiet living room of the home, a lone figure curled up on the couch. He was gazing out, watching the drops hit the glass and the wind sway the trees, looking through a distinct cat mask adorned over half his face. Marvin was dressed in comfortable, warm clothes to combat the cold storm outside, his signature cloak draped over his shoulders and a blanket over his lap. He held a lightly steaming mug of peppermint tea and looked rather relaxed, finding the rain a nice thing to watch. He rested his head against the back of the couch, peering out into the dark forest with half-lidded eyes, wondering vaguely how the others were doing but not thinking too much about it. He was content, happy even, with where he was at the moment.
His eyes trailed around the darkness hiding the trees outside, not paying too much attention, until he thought he caught movement. He paused and sat up properly to look easier, setting his mug down and rubbing his eyes a bit. "Probably just getting sleepy" He mumbled to himself in an effort to convince he was just seeing things. However he was quickly proven wrong as he took another look outside and saw distinct shifting in the shadows. Anxiety shot through his veins as he stared at the forest, not willing to take his eyes away from whatever was out there. "What is that-?" He whispered to himself, leaning closer to the window despite the fear involved with getting any closer to the potential threat. What he saw was a figure in the shadows, the movement he thought was shifting discerned to be twitching or..glitching. He froze, his eyes widening, and sucked in a breath.
But just as soon as it came the figure disappeared, in the blink of an eye there was nothing but the swaying trees and clouded rain within his vision. This did nothing to ease the magician's fears, making them worse if anything, as paranoia set in and his gaze darted around outside trying to locate the all too familiar pattern of glitches. He could have sworn there was static in his ears as his breathing picked up a bit, the longer he failed to find the movement the worse his anxiety got until he felt a hand on his shoulder and-
"Marvin?"
His panicked thoughts were interrupted by the gentle touch and soft voice of his partner, Jackie having entered the room and immediately noticed Marvin's upset state. "Are you ok Love?" The hero asked with a concerned look. Marvin, who had initially jumped in alarm at the touch, relaxed slightly and put one of his hands gently on Jackie's that was resting on his shoulder. "I thought I saw something outside the window" He glanced back out as if it would magically be there now but still saw nothing to confirm the things he saw were real, or deny it. Jackie smiled gently. "Nothing out there but the wind and rain" He sat on the couch, pulling Marvin into a protective embrace. "And if there was, I'd fight it" He grinned reassuringly. Marvin couldn't help but smile at the blind confidence his lover showed, easily relaxing into his arms and calming down. "What if it was a monster and it eats you?" He teased lightly, showing how much better Jackie made him feel by just being there. "You think I would let myself get eaten?!" Jackie replied with mock offense, squeezing Marvin gently. "Nah, I'm too smart for that." Marvin giggled lightly and rested against Jackie. "Of course you are, would never fall for a trap or anything." He got comfortable half laying on the hero. "Nope! Not me!" Jackie laughed softly knowing full well that was a lie as he'd been snared in more villain traps then he could count. He started to gently play with Marvin's fluffy green hair. Marvin sighed happily and let his eyes close, murmuring softly and with a more serious tone. "Thanks Jackie." Said hero kissed the other's head lovingly. "My pleasure, I want you to feel safe" He looked at Marvin with care, watching the cat-like man start to fall asleep. "I love you my hero" Marvin said softly just before dozing off to sleep. Jackie smiled and kissed him again. "I love you too kitten" He held Marvin close and very soon fell asleep himself, the couple cuddled up comfortably on the couch together.
The two slept through the rest of the storm, protected from the howling wind and cold rain by a warm home and the feeling of safety they gave each other. The glitchy being from before stared through the window at the sleeping pair, a set of green eyes the only things visible within the shadows of the trees. Watching patiently from outside the window.
