..I was only 5...

"Do you want anything to eat before your he gets home, angel?" My mommy asked while drying her hands with a rag.

"No thanks, mommy." I responded as I colored in the drawing of a dinosaur in my coloring book with a marker.

"That's a pretty cool dinosaur." I felt her peak over my shoulder.

"You can't look, it's not finished." I giggled while trying to block her way of seeing my work. I heard her chuckle behind me.

"It's about to be 4 and he's gonna be home soon so start gathering up your markers and head upstairs. I'll bring you dinner." She places her hand on my head and I nod, putting my colors in my coloring bag and grabbing my coloring book.

I saw how the ink of the marker soaked through onto the table. I went to wipe it with my sleeve but it wouldn't come off. It mostly smeared. She tugged me away, making me walk towards the upstairs.

"Mommy, is he going to do bad things again?" I asked and she frowned.

"I'm not sure, angel..." she caressed my cheek after wiping her tears before they could fall onto her cheeks. Her hands still felt a bit damp from washing the dishes.

Mommy always cleans while he's at work. If she doesn't than he does bad things to her. I don't like when he does that to my mommy. If a man marries a woman, he should always protect her, keep her safe, make her feel wanted and love. Just like how my daddy was before him. My mommy thought she fell in love again when my daddy left us alone. So, she married another man. Things went bad when we all got a house and moved in together. I thought we were going to be a family again but it didn't happen. I wish my daddy could've stayed with us. My mommy was so happy.

Seeing my mommy frown almost made me want to frown but I didn't. Mommy needs me to be strong and be a man. I'll protect you, mommy. I'll protect you from him.
