Ya know, this started out as a joke idea, but then I thought 'why not try to write it for fun'.

Sidenote: This is a Non-Despair AU

Yuuma walked to the infirmary.

...or at least tried to.

He may have gotten lost in thought when listening to his music that he hardly noticed the flight of stairs in front of him.
He was so close to falling on his way downstairs, which could have resulted in serious injuries. Fortunately, he was able to get off with only a sprained ankle in the process. Of course, that didn't make things 100% better since he was still injured.

Yuuma had made his way to the door and casually opened it.

Standing at one of the counters in the infirmary was a familiar person. One he expected to see regularly in the infirmary itself but was also nervous to interact with in general.

Keiji Iketsugi was one of Yuuma's classmates and the ultimate surgeon. He was very skilled in the practice of surgery and other medical acts. His demeanor, however, put Yuuma at unease. His usual straight face, serious persona, and skillfulness with sharp objects made the small lucky boy uncomfortable. When paired up with the surgeon for a science project, he unintentionally voiced his thoughts aloud referring to Keiji as a creep. Visibly upset and angered at Yuuma's words, the two didn't talk much during their project. After that disaster, they remained on neutral terms. They would occasionally speak to each other in general but the conversations were nothing interesting or exciting. Looking back now, Yuuma regrets what he said. Sure, Keiji didn't really seem all that friendly at first, but did he have to say that aloud in front of him? Just his luck, he had already made an enemy.

Back to his current predicament, Yuuma opened the door to see Keiji standing there, sterilizing some medical equipment. Keiji's attention turned to the door when he heard someone open it.

"Oh, Keiji...umm, I may have injured myself coming down the stairs," Yuuma spoke, putting his two index fingers together shyly. "Can you uhh-

"Where are you hurting?" Keiji said, walking closer to inspect Yuuma. He still kept a straight face, yet his eyes told Yuuma that he was worried.

"I sprained my ankle on the way down, unfortunately," Yuuma replied then sighed.

Keiji, without warning, lifted Yuuma off the ground and carried him to the nearest bed in the infirmary. Yuuma blushed as an act of surprise but didn't question it considering that he could not walk all that well from the injury. "Very well, I'll have a look at it," Keiji said while carrying him. Once seated on the bed, Keiji walked to the cabinets and searched for bandages to wrap up Yuuma's injury. There was an uncomfortable silence between the two while he was gathering supplies. Not wanting to further tamper with Keiji's feelings anymore and hopefully fix the tension between the two, Yuuma made an attempt to lighten the atmosphere with the one thing he knew how to do...

"Can't believe I almost fell down the stairs and could have given myself more serious injuries in the process...I guess one could say that I'm a numbskull! That was a near-death experience that I marrowly escaped from!...I'd say that walking from there to the infirmary was really nerve-wracking. It really rattled my bones! Thank goodness I was able to get here in time. Keiji, I really kneed you to take away my pain! I struggled to get here quickly because I felt skeletons of pain in my ankle~!"

Keiji, now holding the supplies in his arms to bandage Yuuma's ankle, stood there while listening to him. His facial expression was difficult to read. He looked annoyed, but also a bit saddened? "Yuuma, you could have been sent to the hospital if not for me being here. Don't take your injuries so lightly," he said as he walked forward to Yuuma and propped up his leg with e broken ankle.

Yuuma sorrowfully smiled at his response. "I know. Puns are a method I use to cope with certain situations like this one."

"I understand, but-

"I didn't mean to annoy you by the way. I figured that I could get you to laugh considering that you deal with treating injuries a lot! I uh, also hope that we could talk more often...if you want to."

Keiji stood there for a second. He didn't exactly feel stressed so to say, but...was he really unhappy. Not really. Keiji knew that he was not very emotive when it came to feelings and such. He preferred quietness over noise, considering that he visited hospitals frequently for surgery. But Yuuma...he seemed quite genuine about what he said. Things went a bit sour for the two of them before, but this time was...different. In addition, as much as he hated to admit it, Keiji did find enjoyment in puns, usually medical puns.

"That's...very thoughtful of you..." Keiji replied, slightly embarrassed. "I'm willing to put aside our differences as well. It would be childish to hold any grudges against each other.

"So are we on good terms now?" Yuuma asked. "You're not..angry at me?"

"I don't see why not," Keiji replied, lightly tugging on the sleeve of his white coat. "I'm...sorry. I'm not angry, just a bit concerned right now."

Yuuma smiled. "It's alright! I don't mind being here for a while. I'm having an osteoblast with you right now! ;)

Keiji, for the first time, while interacting with Yuuma, smiled at his joke. "Alright, settle down now Sans, while I get started on the bandaging process," He said, still smiling.

"Haha sorry, sorry!" Yuuma replied, raising his hands in defense.

They were quite an odd pair one could say. A boy with the best and worst luck, scared of everything. Another boy with a serious demeanor and usually straight-faced most of the time.

But today, they may have gotten to understand each other a bit more.

Yuuma and Keiji seem to have gotten closer that day.

((A/N: Almost forgot to mention, their relationship in this oneshot, and after the events of the oneshot can be interpreted either way.))
