Paige's POV
Once Chloe and Josh are upstairs, I grab my car keys from the basket on the kitchen counter and sigh,
"Well, I don't see you getting home by yourself." I say to Nick. He nods, and I offer, "Ill give you a ride."
"Thanks." he grunts, and rises to his feet. After I direct him out the door and into the car, I put the key into the ignition, but don't bother to turn on the music. Sometimes I like to drive in silence, and I doubt Nick wants to listen to Demi Lovato right now.
"No problem." I answer finally, and step on it. We glide on down the road, the only sound the whir of other cars passing by. We have to cross a major road to get to Nicks house.
As I watch the street lights and traffic lights and headlights whip by, I also watch the raindrops fall slowly down the windshield. Each droplet is like a runner in marathon, I like to watch them all race down.
Eventually I have to turn the wipers on, but just then we pull up to the Dobbs' big, extravagant house. We stop in front of the semi-circle driveway and I put the car in park.
"Nick, listen, this is really unlike you and my brother and I was wondering if it had anything to do with-"
"Brooke?" he guesses, then heaves a sigh, "Yeah, it does. I feel like no matter how hard I try, I'll always just be her friend. She kissed me the other day but then say she thinks if me as a brother."
I reach out a give his arm a squeeze. I never noticed his biceps before.
"I'm really sorry Nick."
He continues to let it all out, "But unless you hook up with your brother every Friday night then I don't know who I am to her, y'know? She treats me like a desperate booty call lately, and it hurts."
I nod, "I totally get it, 100%."
"Really?" Nick stares at me with those big hazel eyes, so full of hope - so endearing.
"Really." I answer, then before I know what I'm doing, I cup his face in my hands and kiss him, hard. And he kisses back. A lot. With the rain pattering against the hard-working windshield, the car like an oasis in the storm.
