Redemption: A Neville Longbottom Fanfiction

Chapter 2

"A toad??" Draco questioned as Serenity happily held her pet lovingly. "I really liked the toad back at the shop" She admitted skipping alongside Draco. Lucius and Narcissa followed behind the two children. Narcissa admired the joyful moment between her son and daughter. Serenity shoved her toad in Draco's face causing him to step back with a disgusted look on his face. Lucius held back a small chuckle as he watched the two. When they finally arrived at the train entrance Narcissa Hugged Serenity tightly. "Have loads of fun" she whispered to her daughter. Once Lucius had finished lecturing Draco he knelt down to meet his daughter. Clearing his throat he began "Serenity" Yes daddy" he frowned slightly wishing she wasn't so innocent. She sounded like a five-year-old. "Serenity you're growing up now, soon you will learn what it truly means to be a Malfoy. You must understand that we are above quite a few other wizards. Your blood is pure, not filthy like some of these..." His voice trailed off as he eyed the other students. He couldn't believe he was gonna send his daughter off along with this lot. "Remember that you are called to be a higher standard we can't let those muggle-borns dare to even think they have a place..." His daughter's eyes moved from him to her mother's then back to him she looked confused despite listening earnestly. "What I'm trying to say is I expect more of you now, it is time to grow up, you must be top of your class like Draco and make the Slytherin House proud." Serenity nodded sincerely her soft curls bounced along her back.

"Keep an eye on your sister" Narcissa instructed Draco as she kissed his forehead. Draco pulled away quickly embarrassed by his mother's actions. "I know I know..." he muttered. "Come on Renren let's go" Lucius wished Draco would drop the childish nickname. Narcissa noticed his disdain. "Let her have this" She begged. Despite the mark on her and her husband's arms Narcissa hoped that her children could be spared from such darkness. But she knew that the dark lord would return and she knew Lucius plans for Draco which why she fought so fervently to keep Serenity as pure as she could.

Draco excitedly pulled Serenity on the train searching for his friend's compartment. Serenity stared in awe at the number of young witches and wizards. However, she was quick to look back down when she caught sight of that round toad boy. She prayed he didn't see them. Draco went out of his way to push the boy into a compartment before rushing Serenity along. She looked back to see the boy lying face down accepting defeat.

Seamus and Dean helped Neville up. Neville shuddered dreading spending another year tortured by Draco Malfoy.

Finally, Draco found Crabbe, Goyle, and Pansy in a compartment he opened the door wide and headed in. "Who's the girl?" Crabbe asked, staring at Serenity. Serenity shuffled awkwardly in the doorway looking down at her toad. "This is Serenity, my sister" Draco announced proudly. "I didn't know you had a sister!!" Pansy Parkinson gasped. "Yup only a year apart but she's the baby of the family so you'd ..." He paused to smack Crabbe's head causing him to finally stop staring at Serenity "would do well to leave her the hell alone" He warned. Serenity awkwardly sat down next to Draco holding back the urge to hide behind him. She remembered what her father said about having a standard to uphold as she rolled her shoulders back to sit up putting on a false sense of Confidence. "Who's this?" Pansy asked gesturing to the toad in Serenity's pocket. "Oh, this... this is my toad... He hasn't a name yet?"

"Hmmmmm," Pansy thought evaluating Serenity. Though Serenity was only a year younger her quiet sweet voice and shyness made her appear much younger. Serenity hair snowy blonde hair was braided in two following down her chest. They were tied with two little bows further retracting years off. It was easy to see why Draco adored her so as the girl was quite adorable. "How about Sal short for Salazar" Pansy Suggested. The boys roared with approval and a smile grew on Serenity's face as she nodded in agreement.

Serenity quietly enjoyed the rest of the ride. When the trolley came 'round Draco bought them plenty of goodies to eat. Crabbe offered her a chocolate frog, however quickly retracted, catching Draco's glare. Draco roughly placed a chocolate frog in his sister's hand holding his glare upon Crabbe. Soon Serenity would fall asleep her head rested on her brother's shoulder and Salazar cuddled up in her lap. Pansy swooned inwardly watching Draco dote upon his younger sister.
