Jiang FengMian stood on the dais, watching the disciples do their routine on the training ground. Madame Yu stood like a war goddess under the scorching midday sun, her hawk eyes scanning the entire grounds. His heart swelled with pride at the display of the skills of his disciples in sword fighting, archery and combat. He loved them as much as his loved his own three children and he never missed his morning routine to visit the grounds and check on them whenever he was at Lotus Pier.
It was a week since the wedding took place. Even Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing had left for Gusu.
This thoughts wondered to Wei Ying and CangSe SanRen. It was terrible how fate had played a twisted game with the two. Lan QiRen always had anger issues and things did not get better as they grew up; pride and ego were added to it. He was so different from QingHeng Jun, who was known for his poise and calm demeanour and his acute sense of justice. He had a generous heart and would think about things thoroughly before acting. Lan QiRen on the other hand, was a passionate egomaniac, quick to anger and a stickler to the doctrines. As he was given more sect responsibilities, he quickly forgot his wild youthful days; he was harsher when he punished others while his own elders had been more lenient to him.
The voice of a disciple disrupted his thoughts.
"Greeting Sect Leader Jiang. You have a visitor and he is requesting an urgent audience..."
"I will meet him in the Sword Hall..."
Jiang FengMian hid his smile. Finally the boy had decided to make a move. He was curious as to why he asked for a meeting when he was supposed to be in hiding. He sighed. Madame Yu met his eyes across the field and he nodded.
He quietly strode towards the Sword Hall, where his guest was waiting.
"Xue ChengMei... To what do I owe the honour of your visit?"
Xue Yang bowed.
"Greetings Sect Leader Jiang!"
Jiang FengMian nodded and invited him to take a seat on the side at a low table. Xue Yang gulped in surprise. He was not expecting to be received in such a familiar manner.
He sat across Jiang FengMian who poured tea and served him a cup.
"How have you been? It has been a long time since we crossed path... Since you were in YunMeng, you could have joined the wedding festivities, you would have been most welcome..."
"So you knew I was here..." Xue Yang murmured, smiling, without replying to his questions.
Jiang FengMiang smiled, looking at Xue Yang intently.
"Sect Leader... I have a favour to ask..."
"A favour?"
"I would like you to meet a potential candidate who wants to be a Jiang disciple..."
"Xue ChengMei, why do you want to place your spy at the Lotus Pier?"
"Spy?" Xue Yang kept on smiling but his eyes betrayed his shock. He had not thought about that. Of course, Jiang FengMian would think like that. He was a sect leader after all. He sighed. "Would I come to you openly and expose myself if I had to do that?"
He met his eyes, unflinching. Jiang FengMian chuckled.
"Alright, Xue ChengMei! I will meet the candidate... There are several tests to be done before we accept an outsider as a disciple. You must ask your ward to be prepared! Present yourselves at the training ground tomorrow!"
"Thank you Sect Leader! My ward is waiting outside..."
"Hmm – Then bring your ward to the training ground..."
