Watch the Universe Spin Itself Out

I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I guess that's what makes this story interesting. I'm sure, to an outside observer, this story would have entertainment value but for me...

I was in a dark place when I saw the ad. "What the Universe Spin Itself Out." Others that said, "Witness the Universe Shatter Itself Into a Fine Dust While It Grows Cold and Dark."

That last one spoke to me. My wife just left because I spent too much time writing. I get it, too; I wasn't making any money, not like I was harvesting H3 in near Jovian orbit. That was a cold and dark job if there ever was one.

One of the jokes they have on the first day is that the shift is 31 seconds shorter than it would be on Earth. Such a stupid fucking joke. If only I had remembered it.

What I would give for 31 seconds in the physical universe. I hope you're reading this.

Anyway, so there I barely was, clinging to life and trying to find some way to put one foot in front of the other and get out of there; out of that space, out of that time. I needed to reacquaint myself with me, as cliche as that is.

I think some friend of mine suggested it, and of course, that's when I started seeing the ads. Some deep space cruise, like, deep deep space. I was used to being deep in a bottle, deep in a hole, but this sounded different. And in that moment of my life I was screaming for something different, though paradoxically, familiar. Something from my life before I met her.

Something that could make me feel young again, like time stopped.

I'm not sure how I'm even recording this. I'm either the sole survivor, or everyone is trapped in their own pocket universe believing they are the sole survivor. Either way, I hope this gets out. I hope you're reading this.

It was incredibly affordable, and I guess I know why. The whole show was over by the time I agreed, I had no idea how these people operate.

As soon as you've met them and shook hands, your children are fully grown with kids of their own. By the time the papers are signed, everyone you've ever known is a distant memory.

So here I sit, possibly the sole survivor, possibly the last human in the cosmos, watching the universe spin out and die right before my very eyes. I almost blinked and missed it.

God I hope you're reading this. This all may just be indecipherable CBR in the next universe, if that's how this works, but I got sucked into this, pun intended, and before I knew it, I was too close to the black hole to escape. I think at some point, I'll hit bottom, right?

From what I understand, though, if you're reading this, the universe has ended and you're already dead. All because I forgot that stupid fucking joke.
