Taylor kept her promise. They took the flight home that morning, leaving the city of love and beginnings behind them.

They talked during the plane ride when they weren’t staring out over the horizon or seeing funny shapes in the clouds below.

She feels like a puzzle, but missing several pieces. It isn’t because she lost them, but because she wasn’t born with all of them. She’s a puzzle of pieces she’s found through experience. And Karlie’s already fit several pieces into her heart.

Currently she’s lying on her couch, her head on Karlie’s lap, gorgeous fingers running through her hair. Fingernails gently scratch at her scalp. If she were a cat she’d be purring, delightfully purring, and while she can’t purr, a little sigh escapes her.

“So she does have a weakness?” her eyes are closed, but she can hear the delight in Karlie’s voice.

“Mmmm,” she snuggles herself closer.

“And how many people are aware of this weakness?”

“Just you.”

“I could do a lot with that, couldn’t I?”

“Mmhmm.”

They’re silent, and it seems to be happening a lot, but not uncomfortably. She is perfectly content to lie there until she falls asleep.

“Can we talk about something?” Or not.

She opens her eyes, turning over so she can look up at Karlie, those emeralds won’t meet her eyes.

“I can’t figure out what to do.”

“About what?”

“My career. My life. Everything.”

“I think that all depends on that thing growing in your belly.” Karlie rolls her eyes.

“It’s called a baby, Taylor.”

“Actually it’s not. I read about this in a book. It hasn’t developed enough to be a baby. Right now it’s a fetus.”

“I’m still going to call it a baby.”

“And I’m gonna call it a fetus.”

“You think you’re funny don’t you, Swift.”

“The funniest.”

“Yeah, well, I do too.”

Her cheeks are red now. She snuggles herself further into Karlie’s lap. She turns her head and smiles a bit, before placing a kiss to Karlie’s stomach.

“Whatever you decide to do, I support you, and your little fetus.”

“I think…”

“Well that’s a good start.”

She receives a light slap to her shoulder.

“Has anyone ever told you you’re a smart mouth?”

“That’s about the only thing my mouth is good for.”

“I’m sure that’s not true.”

She’s red again.

“As I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted,” Karlie pauses, but Taylor rolls her eyes and remains silent.

“I think… I want to have it. The baby.”

She smiles.

“I think that’s brave of you.”

“There are just so many problems with it that are making me want to rethink it.”

“Such as?”

“My career will basically be dead for nine months. I mean… I can survive on my own for that amount of time, but then what? I’ll have to get back in shape and go back to being a model but then how would I take care of it?”

“I’ll help.”

“Tay, you’ve done enough already.”

“I’m sure that’s not true.” She smirks.

“Smart mouth.”

“I’m serious, though. I’ll help you. You can stay with me as long as you want. Forever, if that’s what you need. And I’ll help take care of you and your little fetus.”

“Tay… I don’t… I don’t even know how to thank you.”

“Just promise me you won’t yell at me when I go overboard with gifts for the little one,” she smiles up at the model. “You know how I am with gifts.”

“Yes, I do. And I promise not to get mad at you.”

“Ever?”

“Only about the baby gifts.”

“But you’re still gonna get mad at me?”

“Taylor Swift, can anyone really be mad with someone so adorable?”

She doesn’t blush this time. Instead she smiles up at the model, curling herself up and giggling.

“What’s so funny?”

“You think I’m adorable.”

“Is that not a common thought?”

“I don’t think so.”

“You have millions of fans who think you’re adorable and gorgeous and you don’t think that’s a common thought?”

“Do you think I’m adorable and gorgeous?”

“Does it matter?”

“Yes it does.”

“Then yes, I do. Very much so.”

“I think you are too.”

Silence. Aside from the beat of her heart it is absolutely silent. Then she gets an idea.

She sits up, only a bit.

“What are you-”

“Shh!” she says, hushing the model above her. She leans her head against the model’s chest and giggles again.

“What’s so funny?”

“I can hear your heartbeat.”

Fingers are in her hair again, gentle, loving. She closes her eyes.

There’s no silence tonight. Tonight she hears music. She hears the song she can’t put into words, as much as she tries. She hears love.
