"She's stable. She's stable. She needs to talk to authorities first. If you do not mind, wait in the lobby and I will come for you when she is awake and finished with-"
"You do not understand! That's the mother of my children. She's been gone...she could've died. She needs me. The kids and us two are going to be the first thing she sees when she wakes."
"I can sympathize, but she needs to talk to authorities before anyone else. Time is a factor here. They have requested her time as soon as she wakes, while the information is fresh."
"I don't give a rats ass. I'm sure she's unlikely to forget everything she's endured. I just need to see her. Her babies need to see her-"
"Sir-"
"By God they are going to!" I hear a bit of scuffle and I try to open my eyes to observe. I groan as the harsh overhead lights burn into my retinas. I am confused. Groggy and confused. The ambulance. IVs. What all happened after that?
"My babies..." I mumble as I force myself up from the stiff bed to try to sit. Pain shoots up through the side of my head and my vision swims again. After everything, I really would have a migraine right now.
"Yes dear, all four of us." My eyes finally focus enough to see clearly and I feel my lips pull back into a grin. There is Holden, Daddy H, and my pudgy baby boys. How they've grown! My eyes water and I grab Holden's shirt, pulling him closer so that I can try to steal the babies from his arms.
"Lay down, you are still disoriented. I'll sit them in bed with you."
I flop back without hesitation as he carefully sits the babies on the bed with me. For a moment I forget about my pain, the horrors I've endured and even my broken teeth and swollen face. They stare at me for a few moments before it clicks and they babble and tug at me. I laugh as I hear them call me mama as they pull my face and hair.
"Easy with mama, boys!" Daddy H scolds and tries to untangled chubby fingers from my hair.
"They are fine...I've waited do long..." I cough a little and Holden immediately shoves a straw into my mouth.
I sip slowly from the cold ice water and the nurse returns to bring me medication for my throbbing head. Holden and Daddy H are halfway into my bed now, kissing my cheeks and head, even telling me how much they love and have missed me. I shut my eyes tightly, just enjoying the warmth and love. The safety. This is what I had dreamed of this whole time to keep myself sane and alive. I'm still a bit self conscious, but none of them have so much as made me uncomfortable or looked at me any differently. It is like I was never gone. Even the babies remembered me.
"I love you boys. All four of you." I clear my throat so my voice isn't as rough.
"We love you too. We have cried, lost sleep and walked holes in the floors. You are never going anywhere again. Not even to the restroom alone." Holden's voice cracks.
"We might take you to the vet and have you chipped." Daddy H jokes. I raise my arm to weakly shove at him.
"Screw you guys. You're terrible."
"I can't wait, but you aren't in that shape yet. We get you healed physically, then mentally first my dear."
I'm tempted to roll my eyes at his dirty humor, but I detect the honesty hidden in his joke. He really would wait for me, and tend to me. He really would make sure I was alright inside and out, and never push anything on me. That is the kind of man Daddy H is, and the kind I'm watching Holden become.
