2 days later...
When I got up this morning, a smile instantly appeared on my face. I called my dad in my room to help me get dressed, but today I wanted to look good.
"Actually, can you get out one of my button up shirts?" I asked as I pointed to my closet.
"What color?" He asked making his way over.
"Teal."
"Teal. That was your mothers favorite color." he explained taking my teal button ups off of the hanger.
"It's my favorite color." I mentioned as he handed it to me.
"You know, you look like her." he said as he watched me intently.
"What?! No! She was beautiful. I look like a nerdy, gross, pizza faced gay boy!"
"Actually, you can't see it, but you are beautiful." He explained handing me my glasses. Was that a compliment? Did my father actually just compliment me? He is usually telling me how much of a disappointment I am, and how I am an ugly child. This whole Mr. nice guy act that he is putting on has lasted for almost a week. Maybe I should let myself get used to it.

"So on Monday you will be able to use your crutches, and not have that lady wheel you everywhere. Are you excited?" My dad asked as he handed me a plate of eggs and toast.
"Yeah, I think I may get less stares if I am transporting myself places instead of having to have a personal aid." I explained as I picked up my fork and knife. I began to cut a piece of my egg, and I placed it in my mouth.
"How is the bullying by the way?" He asked sitting himself down at the table.
"Um, well, it's fine." I said looking down at my partially eaten eggs.
"No, seriously. I want to help you. I have spent way too much of yours and my life wrecking our relationship. I now realize that life is short and I don't want to hurt you anymore. You are my baby boy. I should never had laid a hand on you in the first place, and if it takes the rest of my life to rebuild this relationship that I destroyed then so be it. You don't have to forgive me, just give me a chance. I promise, I will make this right." he explained taking my hand. I couldn't help but cry. This was something I have been waiting my whole life to hear, and here it is. He stood up and placed a kiss on my forehead.
"I love you." he whispered in my ear. At that he made his way to the bathroom. I listened as I heard the water turn on, and he began to brush his teeth. At last, the tears I was crying were happy tears. I began to tell myself that this day would never come, but here it was. Things are really starting to look up for me.

We got into the car and started to drive to school.
"So, are you still getting bullied or not. Don't think I forgot our conversation this morning." He said as he carefully watched the road. My father had always been a better driver then my mom. I remember one summer my mom, my dad, and I were going on a road trip to the Adirondacks to go camping and my mom drove us there. There were so many times when she swerved, or went too fast, or just ignored road signs. My father on the other hand drove us home, and it was a smooth ride all the way home.

"Well there was an incident on Monday, but Kevin stood up for me so it was ok." I explained
"What was the incident, and why didn't I hear about it on Monday?" He asked, truly curious.
"Well I didn't think you would care."
"Okay, well that's understandable. But I just want you to feel like you can talk to me okay. So what happened?" He asked, making sure not to change the subject.
"Well, Jason, the kid who has been bullying me since 8th grade said something about mom, and then he said I should kill myself, and Kevin punched him in the lip, and when Jason got up and tried to go after Kevin, Kevin just knocked him right back onto his butt." I explain. I chuckled a bit at this.
"Wow, that Kevin of yours is a strong boy, and he's big, why would Jason even go after him?" He asked turning onto Melville rd. I closed my eyes as we drove down this road, due to my memory, and my dad knew well enough to be silent the whole time we were on this road. He tapped my shoulder when we got off that road, and we continued to talk.
"Well, if anything else happens just tell me, and I will take care of it okay."

When we got to the school we went about our usual routine. He got out from the drivers side and walked over to the trunk and got out my wheel chair. He unfolded that and pushed it over to the passenger side of the car. He then opened the door for me and lifted me out into my chair. One would question how he is lifting a 17 year old boy. Well that's probably because I have the body of a 9 year old girl. He then proceeded to wheel me into the school. We greeted the office people and at that my father placed a tender kiss on my head and left the building. I sat in the office a bit longer then I usually do waiting for my aid.
"Just so you know Matthew, you will have a substitute aid today." the lady at the front desk told me.
"Okay." I answered as I waited.
"She will be running a bit late." she added.

I waited for about ten minuets before a young looking woman walked through the door. She looked like an angel as she swayed her small body toward me. She was fairly tall, yet skinny. She had long wavy blond hair that fell down perfectly.
"Hello, Matthew. My name is Kayleigh Williams." As she spoke a swarm a butterflies filled my stomach. Williams is Kevin's last name.
"You know my step son Kevin. I think he has a thing for you." she giggled.
"He talks about you 24/7" she added with a wink.
"Oh." is all I could manage.

She wheeled me to my locker, that just happened to be across from Kevin's.
"Mom?" Kevin asked as he turned. His eyes shot to me, and then back to his step mother.
"Hey honey." she said making her way over to him. She hugged him and fixed his shirt collar.
"Mom is that really necessary?" He asked swiping away her hand.
"Are you serious! It's always the fags that get the hot girls or the milfs! So not fair." I watched as Jason and his gang of jocks formed a cliché line across the hallway.
"Mattie!" Bella yelled. I watched as her boney body jogged over to me. When she got to me she placed a kiss on my cheek and hugged me.
"Hey Bell." I said returning the hug.
"Bell?" Kevin asked gently pushing passed his mom.
"Oh shit, looks like Matthews boy Kevin didn't know about the new hottie in town." Jason taunted.
"Would you like a repeat of Monday?" Kevin asked keeping his perfect posture. I chuckled when the hall way filled with the "OHHHH!" Bomb.
"Hey Kevin, this is Bella. She is a friend of mine. She's new here." I explained. She went up to Kevin and embraced him.
"Wow, your very straight forward." Kevin said as he reluctantly returned her embrace.

When I got home from school I saw my dad in the kitchen making dinner.
"Can I, maybe have a couple friends over?" I asked consciously still unsure that this whole nice act was going to last.
"Friends?" He asked dropping the chicken he was in the middle of cleaning back into the sink. I was preparing myself for a beat down.
"Y-yeah." I answered slowly sinking down into my wheel chair.
"That's the first time I have ever heard you talk about friends." he explained smiling.
"Oh, yeah. I made a new friend the other day. Her name is Bella. She is new in school."
"Well I don't see why not. Why don't you invite them for dinner, I'm afraid I might have bought too much chicken for just the two of us." he said picking the raw chicken leg back up.
"Well, I wanted Kevin and Bella to come over, so I don't know if you want Kevin over for dinner."
"He makes you happy Matthew. I can put my personal feelings aside if he makes you happy." I smiled at this and fished my phone out of my pocket. I opened it up and began to text.
'Heyy, y dnt u come on over for dinner.' I sent the text to Kevin and waited for a vibration. He responded faster then I expected.
'Like with u and ur dad???'
'Yeah...'
'Um, do u forget wat happnd w/ us??'
'No but he is ok with it. Bella might come over 2 so it won't be awkward.'
'Ok...' he responded. I could tell he was nervous. I then texted Bella
'Hey!' I waited for a response. She took a bit longer to respond then Kevin, but it was still pretty fast.
'Hey Qt c:'
'U wanna come to my place and have dinner?' When I sent the text I immediately wished I hadn't. I completely forgot about the fact that she was anorexic. I felt a sensation of guilt as I waited for a response.

Ten minuets went by before my phone vibrated again.
'Hey, sorry it took long to respond, and yes I would love to!! 💕' at that moment I was so glad that she was extremely perky because that could have ended badly.
"So are they coming over?" My father asked as he turned on the oven.
"Yeah." I responded
"Can you help me up into my room please." I asked. At that my father rinsed off his hands and made his way over to me. He lifted me right up out of my chair with no problem. I felt a sort of comfort in his arms that I never remember feeling before.
