A/N: So this chapter is just really football practice and more of a look into Jay's home life. Kat will come into the story soon. I originally planned for Kat to be the main character, but things change. Let me know what you think and vote if you like it!!!! Thanks!! XD
P.S. I have no clue what happens during football practice so... Yeah. Sorry if its wrong.

Chapter 3
"Hey, glad to see that you came," the guy from the lockers told me when he walked down. "By the way, my name's Nick."
I nodded and said, "No problem, I'm Jay. So, do I go and talk to the coach or just pretend that I've been here all season?"
Nick laughed and said, "Nah, don't worry about it. I already talked to him during lunch. He said that since we're in desperate need of a quarterback, you're in."
I smiled at him and we took a seat on the mats, waiting for the coach to come in. While we were waiting, a bunch of girls came walking through and Nick nudged me. He said, "Those are the cheerleaders. Sometimes they're pretty distracting during practice, if you know what I mean."
I chuckled. I knew what he meant and he sounded just like my brother if you ask me. "Don't you have a girlfriend?" I asked remembering the conversation he had with the girl earlier today.
He shrugged and said, "What's the harm in looking?"
My eyes narrowed and my respect for this guy went down about two levels. I hated when guys cheated on their girlfriends and he seemed like the kind to do it, just by the look he was giving them I could tell.
I gave him an unbelieving look and was about to say something but the coach came down.
The coach was a younger man, maybe in his mid twenties with medium blonde hair and hazel eyes. He had a small smile on his face and looked to be like he had just gotten out of college.
He looked us all over before saying, "So, boys. We have a game tomorrow. And we have a new quarter-back to train. I don't know how we'll be able to pull this off. Today, we'll be focusing on offense. Mainly the quarterback. To start, we'll do a quick recovery run on the cross-country course and then work on drills. Got it?"
Everyone shouted in agreement. I just stood there, shocked. They expected me to play tomorrow? I know I had played before but, that was like two years ago. I don't know if I remembered everything!
We all walked out and I started to follow the group on the recovery run when coach called me back. He said, "You won't be going on the run. You've got to much to learn. You'll be taking the play book home tonight and memorizing it, understood?"
I nodded an he continued, "We'll start with seeing how good you are. Go run a mile around the track, I'm timing you."
And with that I took off in a steady run. I hated running on track, it was so boring and made me feel like a hamster running in its wheel. I was halfway done with my fourth and final lap so I sprinted to the end. When I ran past the coach, he stopped the timer and told me my time.
"Six minutes eleven seconds. Not bad, not bad stretch. Next, we'll test your throwing."
He tossed me a football and told me to throw it as far as I could. I wracked my head to try and remember the proper way to hold an throw the ball. I finally remembered that you pinky goes on the edge of the laces with your other fingers barely touching them (A/N: I'm not sure if this is correct. I remember my gym teacher telling me something about throwing a football but I forget -_-).
I took a deep breath and threw the ball as far as I could. I looked up and saw that the ball had a slight spiral, but not what it was supposed to.
Coach threw it back and said, "Come on, you can do it!"
