PRIYA
"Priya, Tai, give us a snog for the camera," yelled a chubby photographer who had waited all day for them to get home.
"Do you really think you're the Dad, Tai?" yelled another as he flashed his camera at them as they climbed out of the taxi.
"When are Scarlett and Bobby coming round for dinner?" shouted a lanky man, who had been chain smoking for the last hour whilst they waited. Tai blocked Priya protectively from their sight as she rummaged in her bag. Putting the key into the lock, Priya turned it quickly and pushed her front door open. Tai followed her inside, lugging both of their cases behind him, ignoring the cameras flashing behind them. She turned on the lamp on the little side table, kicked off her shoes and dropped her keys on the table.
"That was crazy! I'm so glad you flew back here with me," she said, smiling up at him.
"Me too," he replied, glancing back at the door. "So, this is your place?" he asked her, walking down the hallway and peering into the kitchen and the living room. He wasn't sure what he had been expecting but everything was very clean and fresh with Scandi style decor. He'd imagined her home to be more cluttered and chaotic.
"This is me!" she said. "It's small, but it's home....for now! We're definitely going to need somewhere bigger with this little one's arrival, as I've only got one bedroom and a box room, and somewhere with a proper garden for them to play in."
"It's so weird being at your place," he said, "You know, after being in like a holiday villa for a month. It smells like you in here though, mango and coconut?"
"You got it," she replied, pointing at the diffuser. "It's our place now though. Eugh, I'm starving." She wandered into the kitchen and opened the fridge which housed only three bottles of tonic and two bottles of white wine. "We should have stopped and got some food on the way back."
"And wade through more photographers? It was bad enough at the airport and those ones out the front!" Tai replied. "Can we order in?"
"Sounds like a plan. Can we get Indian?" she suggested.
"Love to," he replied, "I've never really had an Indian takeout. You pick and I'll eat!"
TAI
When their food arrived, he answered the door and was greeted with more camera flashes as he thanked the delivery driver. "I'm not sure I'm ever going to get used to this," he replied. "There was never this much interest last year, I went back to New Zealand pretty quietly as they didn't even air it there! My friends watched it on the DVD they gave us of it but no one else really knew much about it."
"It'll die down," said Priya, pulling the lids off their food quickly and stuffing a hunk of naan bread into her mouth. "It did last time, although to be fair last time I was home pretty early, not the winner!"
"It's so good to see you eat properly," Tai said, warmly, dishing up their plates with mountains of food.
"It's so good to not feel sick for just a few hours!" she replied, grabbing some drinks before following him into a lounge.
"Can we eat on the sofa?" he asked.
"Tai, I'm not your Mum! You don't need to ask permission," she teased, then regretted it instantly as a flash of pain crossed his face. "I'm sorry, I forgot, didn't mean....of course we can."
"Don't worry," he replied, sitting down and putting his feet up on the coffee table. She bit her tongue to not tell him to take them off.
"I wonder what the others are up to tonight?" Priya said, through a mouthful of saag aloo.
