P.O.V Narrator

The red-haired scientist quickly enters the dining hall, not caring about the teachers' disapproving looks or the comments of his fellow students. Most people at school did not take his Blue Rose experiment seriously, and saw it more as an excuse for him to repeat the same year every time. After seeing Kurt, who was waving him over to join the others, he gestured his confirmation, saying he was already on his way. The truth is that Pascal was usually late because of experiments, which required a lot of time and concentration. But this time it was different: he had been reflecting on what happened and lost track of time.

"He's coming, I hope Professor Watts doesn't give him another punishment for being late." - Kurt said, sitting down again.

"I also hope not, I'm sure he's not late on purpose..." - Carl said in a lower tone, as he stirred the soup with his spoon, watching the liquid move.

"It's quite funny, isn't it?" - Neka said laughing a little.

"What's so funny?" - Carl asked, with a small smile.

"You and Pascal are the complete opposite of each other, and yet you're always together!" - The dark-haired boy who sat across the table completed, making the others agree.

"It's true, while he's late you're always on time, he doesn't care about studying and you always get the best grades." - Kurt agreed with what was said, continuing his friend's argument.

Carl didn't know how to answer. They weren't wrong, the two boys have been the complete opposite ever since they met, but somehow they were best friends.

Opposites. It was the word that defined them perfectly. They were like Sun and Moon, lyrics and melody. They were like reason and emotion, yin and yang. They were opposite enough to complete each other. And they were also blind to not see that...

The last empty space on the table was filled by a tray with the meal of the night, then the empty space on the bench was filled by the boy everyone had waited for. Pascal sat down with his friends for dinner, greeting everyone as usual, including Carl. The dark-haired boy tried to act naturally, but seeing him after what happened in the lab was a little strange. Maybe he was just thinking too much as usual, Serge's presence made him nervous and he didn't know what to think. He was quieter than usual, the soup in his plate was still intact.

"Did you lose track of time working on your Blue Rose again, Pascal?" - Serge asked, curious as to why he was late.

"Science shouldn't be rushed! If only they gave us more Biology classes, I would consider arriving on time." - The redhead replied while repositioning the glasses on his face.

Pascal managed to find the perfect excuse for them not to suspect the delay, but the truth was that he spent more time than he would like thinking about Carl. He could imagine how difficult it was being for him to be so close to Serge and have to pretend that everything was fine. Deep down he felt guilty for leaving him alone, even for a few minutes. The scientist could see that his friend was suffering just by the look in his eyes, dealing with issues related to the heart was never his forte. He watched Carl play with the food while staring through it; he seemed to be lost in daydreams.
