Nina's POV

I'm starting to think that this was all a big mistake. Vic and I have been in California for weeks, and we have hit a wall. I died my hair a dark burgundy, and Vic turned 32 in the time we've been gone. I am starting to think that it was foolish to run off to California. We haven't seen a sign of the mob in weeks... Not that they would leave any signs though.

We had found someone that could lead us to the mob, but when we arrived at his apartment, his neighbor had told us that he had been dead for months.

Maybe the death of my parents had satisfied them and they would leave us alone...

No.

They would never leave us alone. Not until they had their money.

I had overheard my parents talking about it once. Mother had even said that she had seen it happen.

Now that we were trying to find them, Vic and I had been wandering the streets every day. We had found nothing yet, but something wasn't adding up. I couldn't explain it, but something didn't feel right about this.

I felt like something bad was going to happen, like Armageddon, train derailment bad.

Little did I know, it was going to happen a lot sooner than I thought.

I was walking the streets today without Vic. Since we hadn't found any clues, we were basically sight seeing in the hopes that we would find something.

I had gotten a deep fried snickers from a vendor, because deep fried snickers are freaking amazing.

I sat down and I started to feel a prickle on the back of my neck, like some one was watching me. I turned my head in time to Catch a glimpse of dark, wavy hair disappear behind a corner, and I think I caught a glimpse of green camouflage.

I wondered why those seemed so farmiliar to me.

I shrugged it off and continued to eat my snickers.

When I finished I decided to go exploring again. One can never have too many pictures of the Statue of Liberty, right?

I started walking in that general direction, when I was grabbed and pulled into an alley.

A rag was held over my mouth and I caught the overly sweet scent of chloroform before everything went blank.
