The next few days Moody stayed at the house, putting up new defense spells and objects that will alert if someone's in. His presence made me feel like I let him down by not defending myself that night. I took the DADA book and started to practice spells on cushions in the backyard. The pillow was flying this way and that, each time looking more torn and dirtier than before.
"Preparing for the battle, Y/n?" said Bill emerging from the house back door.
"Precisely," I answered without stopping or taking my gaze off the object.
"I was kidding actually."
"Well, I wasn't."
"Look, I know the feeling, but you should stay cold-headed," his voice switched to serious now, but my focus was still on the pillow.
"And how exactly do I achieve that, may I ask?" it was a wonder I was still aiming at the pillow and not the eldest Weasley.
"You should take the whole thing off of your mind, do something else, clear your head."
"I don't know how I can take this off my mind when all I could think of is when will the next attack happen," I stunned the pillow with all might and it flew to the edge of the yard. Neither of us said anything for a few minutes.
"I think I have an idea," finally said Bill.
"Do tell," intrigued, I finally turned toward him, for a moment caught off guard by his piercing gaze.
"You'll just have to trust me on this one, 'cause I am not even sure how we'll do it."
"Do what?"
Instead of answering he just raised his eyebrows slightly smiling, with a kind of twinkle in his eyes that Fred and George have when they are up to something. I took a pity on the poor pillow and decided that for today was enough practice. My thoughts about the attack weren't replaced but rather mixed up with what Bill had on his mind. However, he didn't seem to think about it as much; he never mentioned it or asked questions, so I gave up on the idea, whatever it was.
"I've finally figured out how to do what I had in mind," Bill sneaked up on me while I was washing the dishes and whispered in my ear, "and we are doing it tonight."
I gulped when the thoughts of different possibilities filled my mind.
"Alright," I said hesitantly.
"No one could know, we'll do it when everyone's already asleep and... wear something nice."
"Er... fine," more hesitation in my voice.
However, I couldn't help but smile for the rest of the evening; so much that Ginny and Hermione noticed it and asked what was that about. I had to come up with something on the spot and the first thing that came to mind was telling them about the kiss with George.
"I don't know how they persuaded you into this," Hermione said.
"Me neither," I laughed.
"Well?..." said Ginny.
"What?"
"Did you like it?"
I took a few moments to respond
"Yeah," I said after some serious consideration.
"Well, that's the most important!" said Ginny excitedly.
While distracting the girls I also got distracted with the thoughts, that didn't visit my mind for a while. I didn't think about that kiss or George since it happened, after all, it shouldn't mean anything, but in reality, just confused everything even more.
