Chpt 1: Darkness

Darkness.

That's all I could see.

I couldn't wake up. No matter how loud I screamed, sobbed, or wailed.

All I could do...

Was just sit and wait for it all to end.

'The light will shine through again...' I thought to myself as I kept trying to wake myself up from the hellish dream. 'It'll all be okay...'

But although this has happened many times before...

I'm not sure if I will ever see the light again.

"*GASP*!!" I bolted up from my bed, shaking uncontrollably and covered in a cold sweat. Streaks of salty tears had made stained my cheeks, and I brought my hands to my face to wipe them away. My breaths came out in short, and heavy pants, my heart racing from the extremely strange ordeal that happened in my dreams.

"What... what the fuck..." I muttered to myself just below a whisper. I rubbed my arms in attempt to warm them, but to no use. I glanced over at my clock and squinted my eyes slightly. 'Three AM...What was that dream?' I thought to myself, partially seeing my breath in the air. "Why... why did it feel so real?"

All of a sudden, a dog began barking, cutting into the silence and tearing me away from my thoughts. I groaned and laid my head against my pillow. 'Looks like another sleepless night...' I muttered, staring up at the ceiling.

I don't know why I'm whispering, or why I'm not doing things other "normal" teenagers would do, like go to parties and stuff while their parents were away. My mom was off doing "business," as she liked to call it, but I barely ever saw her. It was like she was... avoiding me, in a way. She wouldn't do that...

Right?

I shook my head to clear my thoughts away. God, that dog would not shut up. And it sounds like it's getting closer. Great.

I thought about it for a moment and furrowed my brows. 'Wait a minute... There aren't any dogs in this neighborhood...'

I decided to brush it off as something normal, but I just couldn't get it out of my head. My body shifted to one side, causing me to look at the bracelet my mother gave to me when I was 12.

"Always wear this," She started, and I clipped the bracelet into place on my wrist. "And you will always be safe. (Y/n)..." as I looked up at her from my bracelet, her eyes were glistening with tears. "(Y/n) I'm so sorry..."

I looked back up at the clock impatiently.

A groan escaped my throat yet again, and I got up, dragging my lazy ass over to the kitchen downstairs. Opening the cabinet door, I brought out a glass, and filled it with water. I brought the cup to my parched lips and took a few gulps, before frantic slamming at the door caused me to drop my glass on the counter, making water spill everywhere.

I was hesitant to go to the door for two reasons. One; I dunno who the fuck is out there. Two; I'm in my PJS. I finally made the choice to look out the door and see who was there. When I looked...

No one was there. I looked outside, extremely confused and beginning to think I was going crazy, when a large crash from a window and a "oof!" caught my attention. I ran to the scene as fast as I could, and I stood in place with wide eyes.

What crashed through the window, was a boy. This boy, seemed about 16, but was a little shorter than most boys that age. He looked latino with black, unruly curly hair, and somewhat pointy ears. He wore a oil stained tan-ish t-shirt, with brown suspenders, a large tool belt around his waist, and grey, baggy pants and workboots.

My widened eyes never left him as I stood there in shock. He had a few small scratches on his arm, but nothing serious. He wielded a large hammer, which was sprawled out next to him. This boy began to stand up, panting heavily and trying to balance himself out. He turned to face me and he smiled.

"(Y/n), right?" He asked. I nodded reluctantly and he bowed, over exaggerated. I smiled and giggled a bit, but soon stopped.

"My name, my fine lady, is Leo Valdez. But you can just call me Super Sized Mcshizzle." Leo smirked and walked a little closer to me, and in response I immediately took a step back.

"(Y/n), its alright. I'm not going to hurt such a pretty thing like yourself," Leo assured with a smug look. I blushed slightly at his words, but soon shook my head.

"What the hell are you doing in my house?" I demanded, crossing my arms over my chest. Leo quickly glanced out the window.

"They're coming," he said quickly, and grabbed my arm. In which I blushed and ripped my arm away from his grasp.

"What's coming!?"

Leo grabbed my arm once again and began heading towards the door, dragging me behind. "The hellhounds! There's no time to explain! Now hurry up before we both become dog food!" He opened the front door to reveal a large, and as the name described it, hellish.

"Oh shit," Leo muttered under his breath, and got into fighting position, standing in front of me protectively.

"Oh..." I said weakly, and grabbed my bracelet unconsciously. With a blinding flash, it immediately transformed into a sickle, with dark, shiny, violet markings all around the handle. The blade was also colorful, with shades of black, blue, and violet as well.

Leo looked over his shoulder and his eyes widened as much as mine did. "Whoa..." While the hellhound was distracted, Leo immediately snapped back to reality and grabbed my hand, rushing past the beast.

We ran fast, but the hellhounds ran faster. They were quickly closing in on us, when Leo suddenly whistled in a high pitched tone. A large figure soon came into view from the sky. 'Wait... is that a dragon!?'

"Yo! Festus!! Down here!" Leo called to the thing, and it began soaring down in our direction. Just as the hellhounds were about to pounce on us, Festus the dragon landed on them, causing a golden powder to spray everywhere. My sickle slowly morphed back into a bracelet, and my eyes were wide.

We slowed our running to a halt and we panted, both Leo and I looking up at the dragon. "Thanks buddy!" Leo said with an impish grin, and the dragon creaked in response.

That's when I realized it was a metal dragon.

A freaking.

Metal.

Dragon.

"Holy shit," I muttered, looking up at Festus with curiosity and wonder in my eyes. Leo looked over with a smirk.

"You like him?" He asked, and placed a hand on his metal friend. "Fixed him up myself." I nodded and looked down to realize Leo was still clutching my hand. A bright red spread across my cheeks as I shifted uncomfortably. Leo noticed and looked down, quickly releasing my hand.

"Oh, uh, sorry..." he mumbled, a reddish tint dusting his features. Festus squeaked a bit and Leo quickly looked over at him, his blush darkening.

"Sh-shut up!" The creaking sort of sounded like laughter and I couldn't help but giggle. Leo rolled his eyes and hoped up onto Festus's back, grabbing the reins that connected to his snout.

"So, 'Super Sized Mcshizzle', where are you taking me?" I asked, and stood next to Festus, placing my hands on my hips.

"Well m'lady, we are going to a magically place, called Camp Half Blood, or CHB for short." I looked up at him confused, and he offered me a hand up, in which I gratefully took.

After I sat comfortably behind him, I ran my hands over the metal that had made Festus. "Half Blood?" I wondered out loud, and Leo turned his head to face me.

"Yup. A place for you and me." He gave his signature smirk. I still wanted answers.

"Well... what are we then?" I shivered from the cold night air and began rubbing my arms again for the billionth time that night.

Leo noticed this and he extended out his hand, and a flame began dancing around on his palm and fingertips. My eyes widened in wonder and he smiled, the light from the flames bouncing off our faces in the darkness of the night.

"We're demigods, (Y/n)."
