Recap:"Do you like watching the sunset?" I asked him, laying down on the grass, my arms behind my head. He also copied my actions laying down beside me.
"Not really. I mean, I never really bothered to watch sunsets before cause it means that the day is coming to an end. And sometimes I don't want the day to end because of certain reasons. Like spending memories with someone that is special to you. You may have them today but you never know what tomorrow brings. And for me, I'm scared for what tomorrow brings cause I know people come and go in our lives and you can't do anything about it but cherish every minute with them. You'll only know how much they mean to you when they're already gone." He sighed looking up to the sky.
"Well that's true. But sometimes sunset brings light to other people. Like me, ever since I was a kid I always watched the sun set. It brings me comfort and let's me refresh for a bit before a new day comes. Let's just say it's my way of unwinding after a long and stressful day."
We both sighed at the same time, just laying there until the once blue sky turned into orange and then into a much more darker color of blue revealing the shining stars up there.
I'm glad I met Calum. I feel like I'm not alone anymore and I have someone there for me. Maybe making friends weren't so bad after all. Maybe I was just really naive to think that Luke was the only nice person in the world. I just gotta open myself to people more.
-----
The walk from the park to my house wasn't that far, Calum and I arrived just in time for dinner.
"Hey, thank you for accompanying me today. I'm really glad I've made my first friend here, I don't feel out of place anymore." Calum smiled at me as we approached my front porch.
"Oh it was nothing. Thank you also for hanging out with me, even though I'm a bit of an awkward and boring person." I sent him a grateful smile.
"Well, I should probably go now. It's getting quite dark already." He gave me a friendly hug before turning back to the direction where we came from.
Just in time, my mother opened the front door illuminating the dark outdoors with the light from inside the house.
"Oh honey, you're home. And who is your new friend here?" She smiled towards Calum's direction.
"Good evening mam. And yes I am kinda Georgia's new friend and I'm also new here so. I'm Calum by the way, Calum Hood." He extended an arm out for my mother to shake, but instead of my mom taking it, she just let out a light chuckle leaving Calum and I confused.
"Oh son, you're being way too formal. And please call me Laura." My mom gave Cal a warm smile and opened her arms out to hug him.
"Well aren't you inviting your visitor inside? And also I made dinner, Calum here can join us if he wants." My mother now turned to me, and turned to Calum and then to me again.
"Well I suppose, only if its okay with him? What do you think Cal?"
"I guess I could stay for dinner. It would be rude if I turned down such a nice offer."
"Okay then, dinner it is!" My mom clasped her hands together.
-
Halfway through dinner, a loud knock echoed inside the house, making us (me, my mom, and Calum) share confused expressions with each other.
"Um, we're not really expecting any visitors tonight. I'll just check who it is," my mother excused herself from the table to check on whoever was at our doorstep.
A few seconds later, different voices were coming from our living room making my curiousity grow even bigger.
"Georgia! Look who's finally here!" I turned around to the sound of my mother's voice only to be met by a pair of familiar blue irises resembling my best friend's eyes.
"Mumma Liz!!! You're back!" I squealed with delight and jumped from my seat to give her a big hug. Liz has been away for quite some time already ever since she was offered a teaching job overseas (You guys decide where cause I can't think of any). We always held family dinners every Saturdays since Luke and I met. It was one of the reasons why Luke and I became best friends. And of course, our mothers became besties too.
"Georgia! It's so good to see you again honey. Look at you! You've grown into a beatiful young lady now." She still had the same glimmer in her eyes when she spoke, just as how I remember her before she left.
"Why didn't you tell us you're back in town?! I could've prepared something for you!" My mom began rambling as she rummaged thru our kitchen for something to cook for the Hemmings.
Everyone was here, Liz, Andrew, Ben & Jack, but I haven't noticed the one person who I haven't seen in a few days standing behind Mumma Liz. He smiled brightly at me giving a small wave, as if nothing happened to our friendship. I was so confused now. He was the one who cut everything between us yet why is he here acting like everything is okay?
"Well, my vacation was unexpected as well. There was a big accident that happened in our school and classes were suspended until further notice so, I decided to come home while I'm off of work."
"Oh, hope it's all good back there. But it's great that you're here! You can get to spend time with the boys a bit longer." My mom clasped her hands together while she spoke. Everytime she talks to Liz about the Hemmings (Andrew, Ben, Jack & Luke) she always refers to them as "the boys."
"Ok then since you're all here now, let me prepare a bigger meal for everyone!" My mom continued rummaging through our cabinets, taking out all the ingredients that she needs for cooking.
"Wait! You don't have to cook anymore, we've actually brought some food that we can share with. I didn't want to come here empty handed you know." Then I just noticed the food container that Mumma Liz was holding and also another container that Jack has.
"Georgia, why don't you set more plates for our guests?" My mom turned at me and started helping Liz with unwrapping the food they brought.
I stood off my chair and grabbed a few plates just enough for our additional guests for tonight and also, spoons and forks. I was having a bit of troubles carrying all of the utensils and plates when someone grabbed a few out of my hands.
"Let me help you with that." I looked up at Calum (ha you all thought it was gonna be Luke aye?) and just nodded my head since I was really having a hard time bringing all of it.
We both went back to the dining table where everyone was seated already and just having a light chat.
"Okay, you set the spoon and forks while I distribute the plates." Calum instructed me and started giving out the plates. I followed him around the table and placed the utensils gently after he placed the plates properly on the table.
And then we were setting Luke's plate and untensils. As Calum put down the plate right in front of him, he gave him a confused glare and turned to look at me with a questioning look when I gave him his untensils.
"Georgia, I think you haven't introduced to us your lovely friend over here." Liz motioned a hand over at Calum and turned to me.
I can feel all eyes on me now. "Uhm...this is Calum, my new friend. He just moved here and I met him earlier today." I glance over at Luke, who had his glare set on Calum, his fists balled up tightly. Who does he think he is? He has no right to have such a rude attitude towards Calum!
Well, this is gonna be a long night.
