growing up, clay wasn't a social person. he was always inside, playing minecraft on his mom's computer. he always preferred being by himself than with anyone else.

but now, it was the first day of 4th grade, at a new school, and clay had zero social skills.

clay walked into the cafeteria, his bright green lunch box in hand, and a bit of a bloody thumb; from picking a hangnail during their english lesson.

he plopped himself down at the end of their lunch table, opening up his lunch box to find a hand written note from his mom.

'i hope you're having a good day at school!
momma misses you tons!
cant wait to hear all about your day when you get home!
lots of love, mommy <3'

clay smiled down at the note, but his expression quickly faltered when he heard faint whispers and giggles from kids a couple of seats down.

"did you get a note from your mommy?" a kid asked, saying "mommy" in a baby voice. he had charcoal colored hair, with a devilish smirk on his face.

clay's cheek's flushed a rosy red at all of the new eyes on him. "n-no.." he stuttered.

before he knew it, a kid tip-toed up behind him and stole the note out of clay's hands. clay jumped out of his seat, clawing at the stranger's arm that was held up high in the air. he was desperate to get him sacred note back.

the kid was tall, so he was successful at keeping the note out of clay's reach.

"hey! g-give it back!" clay yelled, but it was no use, the tall kid had already given the note to the black haired kid.

"awwww! clay did get a note from his mommy!

clay's face became beat red as he slowly sat back down at the table in defeat. tears pricked his eyes as he laid his head down on the table

"hey! give that note back right now!" an unfamiliar voice yelled.

clay's head shot up as he tried to locate where the voice had come from.

a kid with light brown hair walked towards the others. he had black jeans on and a t-shirt with pandas all over it.

another kid stood a little behind him. he had dark brown hair with a blue t-shirt on. he was much more shy than his friend, making sure to stay a couple of steps back.

"i said, give it back!" the light haired kid sneered, as he snatched the note right out of the other person's hand.

clay sat in shock, watching the kid effortlessly take the note out of their hand and giving it back to him.

"here you go" he said with a smile. clay smiled back as he watched him and his friend sit down beside him.

"i'm nick, and that's george. what's your name?"

clay dried his tears with his sleeve.

"dream."
