*one month later*
No. Come on Jas, you have to wake yourself up.
"Mommy? Mommy wake up. Mommy wake up. Wake up, Mommy wake up!"
Jasmine shot up, finding herself sitting in her and Anthony's bedroom, sweaty and warm. She tapped her phone that was sitting on the side table, checking the time.
3:14 AM
Jazzy sighed. After noticing her breath becoming heavier, she silently crawled out of bed before grabbing a new shirt to change into. Once she changed into non-sweaty clothes, she walked into the kitchen flipping the light switch on, and walked over to the kitchen cabinet to grab a glass. She held her glass underneath the tap, listening to the calming sound of the water running. Her thoughts fled to her dream, the only reason she was awake right now in the first place. The words, the voice, the person flooded her mind. The way they articulated the words, the way they sounded, the way they looked. The way she looked.
"Mommy," She whispered to herself, repeating the words she heard. "Jazzy,"
"Jas!" Anthony said, rushing over to her. Jazzy snapped back into reality as the feeling of cold water rushed over her hand. She took a few steps forward, realizing she had overflowed her glass of water. "What's wrong?" Anthony asked, bending over, paper towels in his hands, cleaning up the water off the floor.
"I-It was nothing." Jazzy stuttered.
"Jas,"
"Just forget about it. It's the same thing it always is. The same thing it has been since it happened."
"Since what happened, Jas?" Anthony asked, trying to get an actual answer.
"Since we lost her!" Jazzy yelled out, voice breaking at the end of the sentence. Anthony looked in shock, eyes filled with despair and heartache. He wrapped his arms around her as tears silently rushed down her cheeks.
"It's gonna be okay, Jas." Anthony soothed. Jasmine took a step back, wiping her tears away. He hadn't ever noticed before, but looking at her, she looked different. Her eyes were glossed over, her breaths were heavier, and he hadn't seen her smile in weeks. She stared blankly back at him.
"I'm sorry, Anthony."
"It's not your fault... None of this is your fault."
"I'm gonna go take a walk..." I mumbled, tired but unable to fall asleep.
"You're not going on a walk alone at 3am." Ant told me.
"I just... need a break." Slowly, I walk down the hallway, opening the first door to my left. Silently, I creep into the darkened room. Flowing with memories of joy and laughter, filled with despair and depression, I back up against the lavender painted wall, sliding down to the floor bringing my knees to my chest. I feel tears rush down my face as I cover my mouth with my hands, keeping myself from crying out. Goosebumps cover my body as I sit in the ice cold room, thinking about all the memories created in the room. Building the crib with Pippa, Emmy, and Renée. Painting the walls lavender with Anthony. Buying baby clothes with Oak and Daveed.
My hand wandered to my stomach as the other pulled away from my mouth, squeezing my thumb tightly. The little girl that would've called her Mom, the baby that she created, gone.
