She was in a dark place. That was all she could tell. No matter how far she walked or how much she pinched herself, everything stayed the same. It was an endless tunnel without light and emotions. She desperately wanted to get out of there. It was like she was in an endless void.
"How is she? Any improvements?”
"The CT-scan yesterday showed that the swelling in her brain has decreased, so we're hoping for the best. Right now it looks good, but only time will tell."
"'Only time will tell'? Really, doctor Madison? This is my daughter you're talking about!”
The voices confused her. What were they talking about? Was it about her? They floated in the air, sounding disoriented. She frantically tried walking in the direction she had heard the voices, but no matter how much she walked, turned or jumped, the voices continued to float above her head.
"How are you feeling, sweetheart? I just got back from that cafe you like so much. The hot chocolate there is to kill for. Once again I have to say that you were right... If only you would've listened to me, just this once... I love you so much, baby..."
Who loved her? A smile played on her lips as she heard the conversation. She couldn’t detect if it was a man or a woman, child or adult, but the word came to her nonetheless. To chase the voices she heard was useless, so she had sat down on the ground to listen. It was like listening to the radio.
"How much longer will we have to wait?! I can't stand this!"
"Please calm down, Mr. Davisport. Throwing a tantrum won't help her wake up."
"She's my fiancée! Don't tell me what to do!"
The darkness started to part as she frowned at the most recent conversation. Light started to envelop her where she sat on the ground. She pulled her knees up and wrapped her arms around her legs, trying to shield herself from the light. She didn’t want to go. The darkness had started to feel comfortable. And instead of release, the light brought pain.
