Row after row with clothes hung from the sides of the walls. There was even a sofa and an entire wall with only mirrors. A walk-in-closet. She took a deep breath before setting foot inside the room. It was the biggest walk-in that she had ever seen. Well, that she could remember seeing, at least, she thought sarcastically.
Her heart was beating fast as she stopped in front of a section that held what looked like dresses. In the hospital, she had watched more than enough chick-flicks, but she still thought about one movie, 27 dresses. Not that these dresses were as ugly as the ones in the movie, but they was about the same amount. She touched a deep purple one. It was made of crushed velvet. But it was the dress next to it that really grabbed her attention. It was a yellow, strapless sundress.
Taking the dress down and draping it over the sofa, she went looking for bras. Opening drawer after drawer, she found a yellow bra that matched the dress perfectly. She also found a purple bra that matched the purple dress. Maybe every dress had a matching bra? The thought caused her to giggle. How silly.
Under the bra’s she found a drawer with panties. One after one, she picked them up to examine them. Lace, cotton, string, thong, granny panties, you name it. Slipping out of the comfy, white cotton panties she wore, she slipped on a pair of lacy, light green pair with a complex pattern and a butterfly on her right hip. Childish, but she didn’t really feel like being businesslike so early in the morning.
She cast a glance at an antique clock on one shelf, seeing as it had just passed nine a.m. It had taken all her willpower to wake up at eight a.m. as her mother had instructed her. Eric’s little midnight visit hadn’t helped either. In the hospital, the only thing that was worth doing was sleeping, so she was used to at least 10 hours of sleep every day. Yawning, she put on the bra and dress. She didn’t dare get back to bed yet. If she fell asleep, and nobody woke her up, she wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
She actually had plans. First she had to read the papers her mother had given her, second she had to go sight-seeing in the house, and third she had to decide whether she would go meet up with Orlando for lunch or eat alone in the dining room. And fourth, she had to talk to Eric. Ticking the things off on her fingers, she walked back into the main room. Talking to Eric was the last thing she wanted to do. She didn't trust him.
When she stood in front of the small table with the thick envelope, she sighed. Might as well get it over with. A maid had kindly woken her up, but she had a feeling it wasn't the norm.
The first paper consisted of what looked like a schedule.
8:00 - Wake up
9:00 - Breakfast
10:00 - Duties
13:00 - Lunch
14:00 - Duties
18:00 - Dinner
A typical day. She sighed. Whatever her duties were, it sounded dreadfully boring. Something called duty could never be fun.
Behind the schedule was a more detailed version of her duties.
10:00 - Duties - sign papers, make calls, visit construction site, attend meetings, set punishments
Obviously she was a businesswoman. But "set punishments" seemed a little harsh... She wondered who she was.
"I can see you finally read your mother's papers", a voice said behind her. Sarcasm was evident in the voice. She turned around. Eric was standing in the doorway with a computer under his arm and a cellphone in his hand. A smile lit his face when he saw her frown. "Don't worry, you will soon get used to it. I found your laptop and cellphone in your bag by the way."
