Third person's POV :

"Mom, I am a bit hungry. Can we order tacos?"
"Sure Avery, lemme guess, one chicken supreme with a salad on the side?"
"And don't forget to get Stan something to!"

Upon hearing his name along the lines of taco, Stan lifted his head and let out an small bark.

"Don't worry Stan,we will get you some as well. How about vegetables?"

Growl

"Okay okay I'm just toying with you, lets get you a chicken taco okay?"

Woof!

"Okay okay! Avery! Keep an eye on Stan for a bit while I make the call okay?"

"Yes mum." The moment Ellen walked out of the living room, Stan immediately let out a huge "WHOOP TACOSSSS!!"
"Stan! Mum is right next door not upstairs! Keep it down!", Avery quickly reprimanded.

"Right sorry. But tacos Avery! With the hard savoury shells and  juicy  chicken~"

"Stan, you're drooling everywhere on the carpet."

"Oh...sorry. How long are the tacos gonna take? Cause I need to work up an appetite first before eating them."

"Uh, maybe 10 minutes or so?"

"10 MINUTES!?" "SHHH" " Right sorry, okay call me back when the tacos arrive okay? I need to burn off the leftover breakfast ham before indulging in those juicy savoury chicken tacos~"

" Alright don't wander to far okay?" "Yep! See you later and I better see some tacos in your hands when I come back" and just like that Stan sprinted out to the backyard before heading to who knows where.

And all Avery can do is shake her head and chuckle at the crazy dog. "Sweetie? Who are you talking to?" "No one mum! Just excited about tacos you know? Whoop!" "Haha okay sweetheart let me just finalise the order!" "Okay mum!"

15 minutes later

Knock knock

"Honey could you get the door? I am pretty sure it's the tacos!" "Okay mum!", Avery shouted back as she closed the rather interesting  blog she was reading.

As she opened the door she saw a rather curious sight, the person delivering her tacos is...                     "KARL!?"

"Hello there Avery, it seems that the delivery man delivered to the wrong house so just like any kind neighbour would, I decided to personally pass it to you" Karl explained with a nervous tone. "I see...um thank you then Karl, I...appreciate it", Avery replied a bit confused as to why Karl is acting like this. "Okay, goodbye then Avery." "Bye Karl and thanks for passing the delivery to the correct house." Karl just gave a meek smile back and soon left. Avery just shrugged off Karl weird behaviour and proceeded inside the house with the still warm bag of tacos.

And right on cue Ellen came downstairs and went to the dining are located in the kitchen. " Stan! The tacos are here!"

Soon enough Stan came running after hearing Avery's call. Making sure to give her a lick before rushing towards the smell of tacos. Avery sighed and followed the trail of saliva that Stan left behind into the kitchen where she sees Stan waiting next to the table. Ellen placed some lemonade on the table the same time as Avery set the bag of tacos down.

As Avery and Ellen took their tacos out and started biting into it Stan let a large whine at being forgotten that he was right there. Avery cheekily laughed and started teasing him about what he wanted. Ellen just smiled at the cute interaction between the pet and her daughter. Eventually Ellen had to intervene and pass Stan his promised chicken tacos before he decided to leave a little gift  for them in their shoes the next day.

As the time went by, only the sounds of teeth biting into taco shell, the occasional sipping of lemonade and satisfy noises leaving their lips very once in a while.

Even though it may seem like Avery is just enjoying the taste of the taco, she was actually thinking of how much she actually missed having a quiet afternoon with just her mum, back before her mum remarried they would sometimes buy take out and just enjoy each other's presence.  Now don't get her wrong, she loves her new family but she does also miss being able to just be alone with her mum. And now that the rest of the family went out to meet some relative that Avery and Ellen wasn't really keen on meeting, for the weekend, Avery intends on making the time worth it.

20 minutes later

Ellen and Avery had finished their food while Stan had run off with half of his chicken taco in his mouth to probably share with Princess. Now Ellen and Avery were laying down on the chairs situated at the patio with a jug of fruit infused water on the small table between them. Avery was reading a book while Ellen was looking at her phone scrolling through a bunch of blog posts about single parents and their struggles. (A.N: Single parents truly do struggle a lot so please never ever judge them as you do not know their circumstances)

Eventually Ellen felt that familiar urge again, she tried to ignore it as first but eventually it got to much and she took out a cigarette and lit it. Instantly that urge she had felt was relived and momentarily forgotten that Avery was there until "You do know that smoking is bad right?"

Ellen looked towards her left and smiled ruefully at her. "Yeah, I know, I been trying to ignore it but...sometimes the temptation just gets to much, sorry Avery do you want me to go the porch and smoke it there?"

"I would prefer if you stopped but I think I can understand why you smoke but how do you Bennet will feel seeing you smoke?" Ellen frowned and placed her cigarette down before extinguishing it. "I think Bennet will be shocked but I think he might try to understand, but, I am not to sure", Ellen responded before opening her mouth again, "But I do know that I want him to understand why smoking is something I will try to quit."

Avery stared in silence for a bit before finally processing what her mother said. "Does that mean that you are finally going to attend those addictions talks like I suggested a few months back?!" Avery had by then abandoned her book and was sitting upright staring at her mother. Ellen gave a small chuckle at her daughter's enthusiasm before giving a small nod. Avery immediately ran and hug her mother. "That's great! We need to start finding places where it will be convinced for you as well as set a timing but...I think we can do all that later."  Ellen smiled down at her daughter and gave her a big huge back.

"Oh wait before I forget, we are still having the picnic tomorrow still right mum?"

"Course we are sweetheart. I can't wait to spend time with you again without the rest bothering us."

Avery looked up with a huge smile and gave Ellen another squeeze before replying happily, " I can't wait to spend more time with you too."

And for a while they both laid on that patio chair hugging each other before having to separate due to Stan running towards them all muddy.
