Chpt 4
When I got home, I was greeted by my mom.
"Hi, sweetie. How was it?"
"How was what?"
"The trip!"
"It was fine."
Then she hit me with a question I was hoping she wouldn't ask.
"What took so long?"
"There was a bo-...uh..."
"A what?"
"A book- yeah- there was a book that I, um- couldn't find. And I asked the cashier and she tried finding it too. We, um...uh...found it in a place it didn't belong!"
Mom raised an eyebrow.
"Are you sure that's what happened?"
NOOO!! I THOUGHT THE "OBVIOUSLY LYING" TRICK WOULD WORK ON HER!
"Of course, Mom! You know I would never lie to you!" Inside of me was screaming.
She crossed her arms.
"Well, I guess I believe you. Next time, don't take so long trying to find a book we could order online."
"But Bree made me take her to get some stupid 'pink princess saves the world' book, Mom."
"That's not the point."
"Then what's the point?"
Mom sighed. I was annoying her.
"The POINT, is that your father already ordered dinner. You didn't get to pick what he got you from John Bee's, so don't be upset when you see what you got."
I huffed a dramatic sigh, trudged into my room, and flopped on my bed.
I stared at my ceiling while a million thoughts swirled in my head.
The glow-in-the-dark star stickers I put up when I was 6 are starting to fall off.
And for some reason...That hurts.
