3...2...1...

"Run!" Carly yells, pointing to the other side of the parking lot where the mall door awaits. The four of us start bolting towards the mall, the warm pelting rain is sure to leave red marks on my skin -especially in shorts-, but we only have an hour before the hurricane plows though our city. Now I know, usually we're suppose to evacuate the path of the hurricane, but we have a very large -almost entire house- underground, with generators. Which is why my friend's families and my friends are all over and staying there. Sadly and rudely our parents made us go to the mall in the unsafe hour we had left before the hurricane hits. I honesty don't know why it's still open, or why our parents would let us -no, force us- to go at this time.

By the time we make it to the door, a fairly obese man in a black suit steps outside and takes a key from his pocket. As he's about to turn the key, Carly grabs his attention. "Hey, fatty, wait up!" She calls, as the four of us run towards him, as soon as we step on the sidewalk the man turns back around to close it, but he's interrupted again. "We just need to grab a few things and we'll be out, I promise." She says, gasping for air like the rest of us. We aren't fat, we're actually pretty thin, but we aren't what anyone would call 'active' or 'fit'. If we can't run a parking lot distance, it's probably an issue.

"I'm sorry, but I'm going home, and I need to close up now." He says with a sarcastic apology. I flick the blonde hair from my shoulder and take a step closer -like someone would in movies. "Listen up bud, there's about an hour left, now I don't know what you'd be doing here anyway but all we need is a few simple items to last our families, and we'll be off." The man doesn't move, he only shines me a dead toothed grin and a knowing look.

"For a price." I can almost picture him rubbing his hands together creepily.

"What?" Arista groans, jutting out her hip and tightening her jaw. He puts out his hand, wiggling his fingers together.

"Ugh, fine!" Arista snaps impatiently. She hands him a wad of cash from her denim shorts pocket and we push past him, through the mall doors. It's as if I went completely def, everything is silent, now that we're out of the raging storm. The entire mall is deserted. The food court that's usually packed, is entirely empty, leaving some crummy tables and wrappers, the lights are still on though. Arista grabs my hand, pulling me towards the end of the mall where Target is located. The small specialty shops are unmanned, no cashiers or employees in sight, but everything is left open.

"Come on, girls. Let's hurry up and get outta here." Ember whines, dragging me faster along the tiled floor, I almost forgot she was here, she's been so quiet. "Wait!" She halts, and points towards a sketchy looking antique store. We walk slowly into the store at our left, where an almost inaudible voice comes from. On a shelf behind the cash register, sits a sketchy battery powered radio among the packages of Doritos, chocolate bars and random 1960 antiques. Carly yanks the old, dusty radio from the shelf, lowering it to our ears as we huddle together and listen. "Stay indoors! This is a category-five hurricane! I repeat, stay indoors! Everyone who hadn't evacuated, stay indoors, underground if possible!" Exclaims a gruff voice on continuos automatic repeat. Arista's eyes glaze with panic and Ember let's out a shriek.

"Come on, Harper. We better just go, it's only going to get worse and we need to get back. Safely, if possible." Carly quivers, turning around on her heel.

"Not yet," I say, stopping the three of them half way into the main hallway. "Our parents will kill us if we don't get those batteries and extra food, we don't know how long we'll be trapped underground. Especially in a category five." I rasp, panic edging my voice. The girls nod and we take off, towards Target. As we're running to the other end of the mall, I notice how the lights begin flickering, but since we're obviously in a hurricane, I ignore it. As we approach Target, we slow down to a stop, and make a plan.

"Okay," Carly begins. "To make this faster, Carly and I will get the batteries and flashlights, Harper and Arista will get some food. Okay?" We nod. "Go!" As soon as that last word exits her mouth, we're running at full tilt past the clothes and bathroom supplies, all the way to the food. Arista and I start piling loaves of bread and bags of dried food into our arms. From the corner of my eye I see a Target basket and quickly dump the items into it before running to the other side of the department to find Carly and Ember. I find them with ten packs of batteries each. Of coarse the money Arista gave the man couldn't pay for all of this, but who cares, we'll just sneak out another door.

We all give each other a look before nodding and running -well, trying to- towards the closest door possible. Once we reach it, I notice that outside had gotten ten times worse. The eye of the hurricane isn't suppose to hit for four days, but the storms will be like this for eight days, four in-four out. It's said to be the biggest hurricane in history, so just us, in one state are having it for eight days. It's been lasting for months. The parking lot is now a thin stream of water and the air is grey and humid. "Alright. Let's do this." Carly says, preparing to go outside in the treacherous weather. Carly runs at the automatic door, preparing for it to open.

We all get ready to run after it opens. Only it doesn't.

Carly's moaning body is on the floor is second's as a loud 'thwack' echoes through the empty mall. Arista -instead of seeing if her friend's okay, like most people- glares at the door before kicking it slightly. "Why isn't it working?" Sometimes that girl's more blonde than her hair colour.

"Um, well, I don't know...maybe because it's locked from the outside!" Exclaims Ember. "We need to try another door."
After I help Carly stand and gather her batteries, we shuffle towards the next closest door, still not the same one as we entered in. Arista pulls on the door, but nothing happens.

"Locked too." We all groan and face the fact that we need to go back through the door that the man is waiting at. We run all the way to the exact opposite side of the mall with all of our items -making us tired very quickly. As we approach the door, the man can't be seen though the glass, but since it's all grey outside. I decide to ignore it until we get there and get a better look. Once we reach the door this time, we see that the man has defiantly left. Already knowing the answer, I weakly tug on the door handle, but just like every other door it's locked. When I turn around, the girls have already started walking away, towards Target again. Now we aren't running, we're slowly walking while dragging our feet along the tiles. I know exactly what we're all doing, we're all thinking about how our families will think we've died, and that we'll be stuck in a freaking mall for over an entire week.

"Well," I say, interrupting the silence. "We better get some supplies and find a shop to stay in, I guess."

This will be a very, very long week. . .
