They returned back to the Agreste mansion at around 9pm. It was late, but his house was a 45 minute drive from the hospital. And after his mother passed, Adrien cried to Marinette outside, unable to leave without his Aunt. So it had been a few hours. As they arrived home Marinette was invited to stay the night which she politely accepted. They made their way to Adrien's bedroom and Adrien was like a lost puppy. He needed Marinette to look after him tonight, and she did just that.
She ran him a shower and got him his joggers to change into while he freshened himself up.
"Adrien?" she half yelled, knocking on the bathroom door
" yeah Mari?" he called back. His voice had a bit more spring in it. He was feeling better, the shower really did help- Marinette always made him feel better, even on days like today. She always has the right idea at the right time!
"i have your joggers!" She replied
"could you put them on the counter bugaboo?"
"not if you call me that" Marinette giggled as she walked into the bathroom, making sure to not look anywhere but the counter top. She actually loved being called bugaboo, but she was in no way going to let him find that out. It made her feel special, like only she could be his bugaboo, and only he could be her Chaton :)
Then Adrien appeared. His long golden locks were stained a light brown from the water which Marinette admired as a drip fell from his hair and ran down his chest. Marinette peeled her eyes away and managed to look at herself in the mirror. Somehow, she had controlled her blush and the only signs of her being flustered, came from her quickening breath. 'Now's not the time Mari' she shunned herself. 'He's just lost his mother for the second time, control yourself for god sake'
"Marinette?" Adrien spoke, brining Marinette away from her thoughts.
"yes?" She asked sheepishly
"can i get dressed?" he teased, the Chat Noir grin creeping onto his face as he turned around, rubbing his hair dry.
Then she realised what he had asked, and in the most overwhelming amount of embarrassment she had ever felt she ran out of the bathroom and into his bedroom.
She quickly slipped on a t-shirt he had given her to wear as a nightdress (because she hadn't planned to stay the night) and stood awkwardly waiting for Adrien to emerge from the bathroom. She wasn't sure weather to set up on the sofa like he had done at hers, or...
"what you waiting for? Midnight?" Adrien asked sarcastically , walking out of the bathroom, a towel hanging around his neck. Yep, definitely Chat Noir..
"oh no- i uhm, should i sleep o-on the sofa or - well, if you wan-anted i can" Marinette stuttered. She was in Adrien Agreste's room. Wearing his shirt. With him, topless- of course she was going to stutter.
"if you don't mind-" Adrien cut in "i'd rather not be alone tonight" The pain behind his words rung through Marinette's ears and sent tingles down through her body. But she let a grin creep across her face as she watched him grab a piece of cheese and a cookie, and took it over to the Kwami's who were fast asleep together on his sofa.
"for breakfast... Plagg will wake before me and put on the TV. He always has his cheese with the morning news on a Saturday morning. And i thought Tikki might like a little something too" He smiled at Marinette as he walked over and got into bed.
Marinette slipped in, next to him and led down on her side, facing him, worry now growing on her face as Adrien rolls over to face her.
"what's wrong?" he asks
"are you okay, do you want to talk about today?" She blurted out. She didn't know how else to ask him.
"i'm actually okay. It was hard in the moment. But i processed her death 3 years ago, so i think i'm okay with this" he said simply. It made sense to Marinette, all the feelings were processed, it was just the letting go of his hope which would've hurt him the most.
"i'm proud of you Adrien"
His face lit up. A sense of pride filled him and warmth spread through his body. Those words meant everything to him. Those words were the words he use to seek from his father everyday... but now he was gone, he realised the only person he ever needed was Marinette. Maybe this was why he was so drawn to her on his evening patrols. Why, despite blueberry macaroons not being his favourite- he still loved them, because they were from Marinette. In this moment, his worries melted and all he cared about was her, and loving her, and smothering her for the rest of his life...
"every time i look at you Mari, i fall in love all over again- i wasn't sure that after all of this you'd still want me. I'm not that perfect model boy anymore- i've been broken. Yet you're still here, i don't deserve you."
"when something breaks, it can be glued back together again. I'm your glue- and i'm here to make sure you never shatter."
"you didn't stutter" Adrien teased. Slightly impressed at her metaphor.
"i'm pretending you're Chat" she giggled
"really??"
"nope, it i just wanted to wind you up" she said cheekily before rolling onto her other side, her back now facing Adrien.
"Hey!" he protested. But she didn't budge.
Then it happened again. The click. Adrien wasn't sure what it was but he knew he wanted to be closer to Marinette.
"turn around Marinette" he asked softy. The tone of his voice sent a warmth through Marinette's body. Her heart pounded in fear and excitement. So she stayed, with her back to him- unsure of what was going to come next.
Click.
Adrien grabbed Marinette's waist and pulled her onto his body. He took out her pigtails and brushed her hair behind her ear. He leant in behind her and whispered "Marinette?"
"A-adrien?" She stuttered. What happened to her confidence she had two seconds ago? She was a flustered idiot and if fed his ego.
"i-ive never" Marinette began.
"you've never?" Adrien questioned.
"I'm a-a uh-"
"Mari! I wasn't trying to- no! oh i'm so sorry I didn't mean for it to seem like-" Adrien stumbled on his words, realising what Marinette was thinking.
Marinette rolled over, blush concealing all of her expression and simple giggled at the flustered Adrien led beside her. She took a moment and watched as his lips formed a smile, reaching out and brushing his hair out of his eyes.
"I love you Kitty" Marinette said, leaning in and placing a gentle kiss on his lips.
Adrien's heart began to pound out of his chest, his eyes battered closed and he reached out to his lady. Grabbing her waist he pulled her closer as she pulled away from the kiss. Without thinking Adrien kissed her again, and again- passion sparking between the two.
With a soft giggle, Marinette broke the kiss.
"Goodnight m'lady" Adrien said, placing one final kiss on Marinette's forehead.
The two snuggled in together, Marinette snuggled into Adrien's chest.
