Ash purred as he looked at the sky. Paul was training his Turtwig kinda harshly. But the little grass type didn't mind. Though the others still told him to be gentle.

"Paul, I know the trauma never left you, but don't put your pain into your training." Paul nodded faintly.

"Sorry... I can't think straight. It'll be hard for me to not do that." Turtwig rested in his arms as Eyrin hummed.

"It didn't seem to mind it though. Which is surprising. It seems to still go along with it to help you out." Paul paused as he stroked its shell.

"I don't want it to, but..." He teared up a little bit before running off. Ash gulped as he went to run after him. Qidorr held him back.

"Let him go. He needs to calm down himself. Besides, his Turtwig can help him." Ash frowned at that.

*O*

Paul had settled down against a tree nearby the main trail. His Turtwig was at his feet as he tried to maintain a stable status.

"I'm sorry Turtwig..." It paused. "I shouldn't be so aggressive..."

It let a vine wrap around his wrist as it looked around. A soft sound pierced through the air as he paused. He gently picked up the grass type and followed the sound. He froze at the sight. A small pokemon was being slammed into a tree by a larger one. He pulled out his pokedex.

"Nidorino... and Eevee..."

He frowned as the smaller pokemon weakly tried to get out of the way of the poison type's attacks, failing very badly. He growled softly. Almost taking it as a sign, Turtwig jumped down and went forward. It slowly walked over and sent a RAZOR LEAF at the ground near the poison type. It paused as it used its vines to get the smaller pokemon to Paul. It growled as it raced forward and slammed it into a tree. Paul panicked.

"Turtwig-"

He stopped as it got up and bravely used TACKLE on it. The bravery shocked the poison type into running away. It smiled as he picked it up.

"Turtwig... that was amazing!" It smiled as the Eevee let a soft noise of pain and happiness out. Paul turned his attention back to the normal type. "Are you ok?" It nodded as he placed Turtwig onto his shoulder. "Let's get you healed..."

*O*

He was able to find the others taking a small rest while Ash was cracking jokes. But he put them on hold when he saw Paul.

"Hey..." His eyes must've touched the wounded Eevee as worry hit his face. "What happened?"

"I just barely got it out of a dangerous fight." Eyrin went over and looked at it.

"You look like a very nice pokemon. Lemme see..." Mlm was suddenly next to him and letting a hand run through its fur. A faint light coaxed it as its wounds vanished. He smiled before backing away. The Eevee smiled at that. Max hummed.

"Not bad, Mlm." The smaller kid nodded as the normal type rested in Paul's arms. Ash hummed.

"Y'know... I think it likes you, Paul." He softly petted it.

"You think so?"

"You just saved it. I'm sure you two would get along." He paused as he smiled.

"Hey little guy...?" It looked up at him as he slipped a pokeball out of his bag. It spotted it and perked up. He held it out and it happily touched it, going in and letting it click. He smiled.

"Aw... maybe you can bond with it and not train as hard." Paul nodded with a faded smile.

"Yeah..." Max smiled.

"Well now the rest of us are a pokemon behind. C'mon."

*O*

Max and Ash were able to find a Rockruff and Houndour playing and were able to catch them. Mlm and Eyrin were able to catch a Petilil and a Caterpie. Qidor had the most struggle as he eyed a Pidove. Paul smiled.

"Need help?" He nodded as he petted Fennekin. Paul smiled. "Go ahead."

The small fire type went over to the small bird. They stared at each other for a moment before they clashed. Paul smiled as Qidorr panicked. It was able to weaken it with an EMBER before Paul let a pokeball roll over. It tapped it and put it into the ball before clicking. He smiled as Fennekin brought it over.

"There you go." Qidorr smiled faintly as he took the pokeball.

*O*

Paul was playing with his Eevee as the others finished training. He was sorta falling asleep as the small normal type jumped around. Max draped a blanket on him as he yawned and Eyrin put him in the cart.

"Rest Paul. You deserve it." He smiled as Eevee and Turtwig curled up next to him. He fell asleep as they went.
