You were sort of right.
The only upside of this whole 'date' thing was that you could sit there in absolute disgust with Karasuma as Rin fed Oikawa some sushi, as she giggled, and he batted his eyelashes flirtily. It seemed he'd finally taken interest in Rin, having commented over and over how cute she was.
You and Karasuma were both on the urge of puking up your food. Your friend reached over, and patted your shoulder comfortingly, trying to say, "I'm sorry your crush is literally swooning over your bitch of a best friend."
(It didn't help, but there was something slightly funny about the whole ordeal to be honest.)
In response, you offered him a grimace of a smile, so forced you thought it might break off your face from how utterly fake it was. Then, your eyes widened, and you clasped a hand over your mouth, as you genuinely felt like you were about to barf up the meal you'd eaten earlier; Karasuma panicked, and gripped your arm, attempting to tell you non-verbally to hold it in.
You could only shake your head, as the lump in your throat grew, as your gaze locked onto the sickeningly happy couple opposite you.
"Oikawa-kun~" Rin sang, holding up a piece of her food in her chopsticks, "Open wide~"
"Ahh~" Oikawa obliged, making eye contact with her, which made her blush intensely, and let out a shy giggle.
(Oh god. Puking time.)
"Bathroom!" you managed to splutter, before sprinting off towards the toilets at the back of the restaurant.
Karasuma followed you quickly, and found you sitting outside the door of the restroom, not inside, but actually just on the floor, in a ball of self pity. "I'm so sorry, (Y/n)," he murmured, sliding down next to you. "This must be really hard."
"Well," you laughed sarcastically, "if they do get together, the one upside will be that Rin will focus her attention on him more. That way I don't have to put up with her as much."
"That is true," Karasuma agreed, "but what about your feelings?"
"Fuck my feelings," you replied dismissively. "I'll still be friends with Oikawa. That's as much as I can ask for. I don't care if he dates someone else, at least I'll still have him in my life."
"You're setting the bare minimum for yourself," your friend spoke, poking your face. "I know I can't stop you. You're way too determined. But if you ever want to talk, I'm right here, ok?"
Rin had never offered that. Well, not since she changed. Despite the shitty situation, you found yourself smiling, and then blinked when Karasuma stood up, his eyes alight with mischief. "What?" you questioned, getting up as well.
"What do you say we ditch them and go somewhere else?" he offered, grinning cheekily, before gesturing towards the exit. "I know an anime merch shop down the road, if you wanna go."
"Abso-fucking-lutely," you replied, unable to help the corners of your mouth from stretching even wider. "I'll just text Oikawa and let him know we're gonna go yeet ourselves elsewhere."
"Whatever you say, captain," Karasuma mock saluted, which caused you to snort obnoxiously as you pulled out your phone.
You:
Ayo we're leaving
You have fun w RinNeedy Little Bitch:

Just keep doing whatever you're doing
And have fun
Without me (message not sent)Ignoring the way your stomach flipped, you followed Karasuma out, and onto the road, not looking back, in fear of watching Oikawa and Rin end up kissing each other.
Well, at least this supposed love story was finally taking the right direction, although it had taken a while to get to this point. You'd been commissioned, and at last you were doing your job correctly; hell, maybe you'd even get paid. Fuck, you hoped so, you weren't about to go away without some type of reward, you'd put in a shit ton of work.
So why did you feel like you wanted to hand in your resignation?
-
"She's so adorable!" Oikawa gushed to you, the next morning at school. "I'm definitely going to date her after the interhigh tournament!"
"Tournament?" you questioned with a frown. "As in a volleyball thingy?"
"It's not a thingy, (Y/n)-chan," Oikawa scolded, "it's something very important to me. And we're going to win. It's my last chance to go to Nationals this year, and I'm not going to fail this time."
You nodded slightly, though you couldn't help but recall how they'd never done that before. It would take a miracle to get them through this time. Well, it wasn't impossible, and it was probably best to let the boy dream.
"... can I come?" you finally asked, although you had to force the words out of your mouth.
"Why?" Oikawa questioned in confusion.
You paused, before pressing a hand to your forehead, and releasing an irritated sigh. "I was under the impression that friends supported each other at important events."
The young man blinked in surprise, then smiled softly, obviously touched by your proposal. "I would like that a lot," he admitted, with a slight laugh. "I don't have any friends, outside of the volleyball team, who offer to come watch my games."
"You have some shit friends," you commented, though you gripped your desk, after properly registering what you'd said.
But, instead of getting angry, Oikawa merely glanced away. "Yeah. You're right."
"But you see," you spoke smugly, "I didn't have any friends for half of my life span, so I got spared the burden of socialising with others."
"Why are you saying it like you're proud of that fact?" he chuckled.
"I don't know," you replied bluntly, which caused him to burst out laughing, his cheeks turning an adorable shade of red out of amusement.
"You crack me up, (Y/n)-chan," he giggled, wiping away a few non-existent tears.
"Maybe I should try being a stand up comedian then," you commented, before getting out of your seat with a grin, and doing a sweeping bow. "Oh, Great King, I am blessed to be in your presence. I am blessed to breathe the same air as you, and to touch the atoms that you have seen in your lifetime."
Oikawa stifled another bout of laughter, then played along, kicking his feet up onto his desk, and giving you a playful, yet sultry look. "Damn right," he replied in a low tone, lips curled into a smirk. "You should be grateful to be looking at me."
"And what a sight to behold you are," you continued to praise him. "Looking like the king you are, the one who will win the interhigh tournament."
His smile only grew, as he puffed out his chest with pride, and you started to regret the skit, after realising just how much you'd fed his giant ego; but that quickly went down the drain when the enraged shouts of Iwaizumi echoed throughout the classroom.
"Shittykawa! Did you brainwash (L/n) into falling for you? You piece of crap!"
"I-Iwaizumi-san it was just a joke! Please let him out of that headlock, it looks like it could cut off his air supply!"
