"Open- and shut." Derek Morgan casually flipped the case files closed. "Why did we even fly all the way out here for this?"
"Because the local cops never interviewed the wife. They just assumed that since we ended up getting a confession from her that it would have taken a profiler to get one anyway." Aaron Hotchner concluded dully, squeezing his eyes shut and rubbing his forehead.
They had just flown from Quantico, Mississippi, all the way to LA, California, to work a case that the local law enforcement just "simply couldn't solve"! On their arrival they learned that not only had the case been open for only two days, but they had never even interviewed what would be the main suspect. The wife's alibi matched and she had just moved very suddenly across the city to "be with her parents." They got a confession from her as soon as they showed their badges. They boarded the jet and headed back to Quantico that same day.
"I don't think I've ever worked on a case that was solved so quickly." Emily Prentiss chimed in. "That was just ridiculous."
"It's true. I have never seen a more disorganized group. Ever." David Rossi sat back in his chair, sipping his drink.
"Well, most places have some amount of decent task force, but this one..." JJ laughed, and the team joined in. They all paused, expecting a reason on why that specific LA detective team had been so awful-- but none came. Confused, they turned to where Spencer Reid was sitting, with his arms crossed on the table in front of him, using them as a pillow. He had fallen asleep.
"Aw, the case must have been tough on him. All that hard thinking," Morgan sarcastically frowned. The team laughed again, and then settled down, getting ready for the rest of the flight home.
The jet landed back in Quantico at 8 PM. "Alright, everyone. I suggest you just take those files home and finish the reports there. I have a feeling they won't take very long..." Hotch sighed. They exited the plane, and headed inside to their office to grab anything they left behind.
"How much you wanna bet that they assign us to another case tomorrow?" Morgan whispered, leaning towards Emily.
"I'll take that bet if I'm the one betting we do get assigned a case." She whispered back. They chuckled, and went their separate ways.
The next day, the team went to their separate desks, waiting for their next assignment. "There's no way we are just doing paperwork today. Not after yesterday's hour long case." Emily whispered to Spencer, who was sitting in the desk from across her. Spencer tilted his head slightly, furrowing his eyebrows and opening his mouth, about to say something, when Penelope Garcia hurried to them. Her bright and colorful attire was easily spotted; they didn't have to see her face or hear her voice to know who it was.
"We have another case" She said.
Emily and Spencer shared an unsurprised glance, then a concerned one after they saw the look on Penelope's face.
"How bad is it?" Spencer asked.
"It's..." She trailed off.
"We're meeting in the round table room right now, we have a... weird case." JJ said, casting a worried look at Spencer as she swished past them. Emily and Spencer shared one more confused look before following her and Penelope to the briefing.
As they walked in, Emily spoke up."So what's so weird about this one?"
Hotch, Penelope, and JJ didn't answer, but shared a slightly perturbed expression.
"Okay... so is the briefing today?" Morgan joked.
JJ picked up the slideshow remote, and began the presentation.
