A/n: I'm really stressed and going through stuff rn, I'm taking a two-ish week break. This chapter was made in a rush but it should still be good :)
"Huh? Camp training?" Soma asked as he stared at the booklet Isshiki placed.
We all stood around the wooden table, well except Yukihira who's sitting. All the members had decided to gather after breakfast. I picked it up and flipped through the pages of the camp guide, mostly looking at the tiny cartooned drawings. I was as equally as confused as Yukihira.
"The time has finally come," Yuki said, tangling her hands in her hand in distress.
Soma snatched the book out of my hand with quite force. "What is this?"
A painful sting was felt on my finger when he took it out of my hands. I looked down to examine it. A freshly new paper cut was barely visible on my skin. I tried moving my finger a bit before wincing.
"You had something like this in elementary school and junior high, didn't you? It's like a camp where we all go and stay for a couple nights," Ryoko explained.
"Huh," he flipped over a page, "didn't know this school did stuff like that."
He let out a sigh before closing the book and looking up. He raised his brow. "Why are you shaking, Tadokoro?"
I looked beside me see Megumi shaking and looking awfully unwell.
"This camp represents the first circle of hell for new high school students," Marui spoke up.
"All first years will be tasked with grueling cooking projects everyday in a remote location in the mountain. If we don't earn a passing score, we face immediate expulsion. They claim it's an opportunity for friendship and kinship, but in reality... it's a merciless welder training camp!"
"Hah-" Megumi seemed to be struck by that and was trembling even more and swaying around, ever so nervous. I was slightly worried about her well being.
"This is what Totsuki's education by competition looks like. The director spoke of the one percent, but this is where the selection process really begins," Isshiki said.
"Isshiki, didn't you also go to this camp last year?"
"Ah, of course. Even in my time, dozens got sent home and expelled everyday," he spoke calmly.
"The number of student even dipped below half of what they started off with in one camp some years ago."
"Half?" Megumi turned more palely white if possible before toppling over. I let out a yelp as she crashed into my arms, trying to keep her stable from falling. "I'm grateful that we could be together until now, guys..."
