The sorting!

Once I got off the boat I filed in line along with the other students, before Hagrid would open the front entrance he had us all promise to behave for Professor McGonagall and Professor Dumbledor. We all agreed some of us reluctantly, then the doors were opened. It was indescribable and very hard to take in at one time! Hagrid told us to follow the staircase all the way up, as we arrived we were greeted by an older woman with a warm smile. Assuming she was Professor McGonagall we quieted down. She clapped her hands together and happily started her speech.

"Welcome to Hogwarts, in a few moments you will pass through these doors and join your classmates. Before you can sit down you must be sorted into your houses. There are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while you are here your housemates will be like your family, any triumphs will gain you points. Any rule-breaking will cost you points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points will be awarded the house cup. Are you ready to be sorted?"

There was a small Russel of head nods and whispers of yes. Then the door to the Great Hall opened and Professor McGonagall leads us in, the Hall was so lively it was making my nerves melt away. Shortly after Professor McGonagall announced that we would be sorted in alphabetical order. I felt like throwing up, I would be the last person sorted. I didn't know what to do. As I was panicking Professor McGonagall rolled out the list and put a dusty old hat on the stool upfront. I wasn't paying any attention until the hat started singing!

"One thousand years ago is where this story starts, there were four sorcerers with strong and wise hearts..."

After the hat stopped singing McGonagall started going through the names, most of which were either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Once she started the T section I tensed up it was almost my turn. Then it happened,

"December Veridian"

I walked up to the front, sat on the stool, and waited for the weight of the sorting hat to be placed on my head. Once I felt the weight the sorting hat started right up,

" Hmmmmm..... difficult very difficult. Lots of courage, cunning and resourceful! Ahhh, and a thirst to prove yourself there no doubt about that but where to put you!"

It felt like the hat was going through my brain like a library, it was weird knowing something as simple as a hat could know all of my values enough to place me in a house. But what was weirder was that it is going to be my house for the rest of my life. A life-changing decision made by a hat in only moments!

"Yes... Yes Yes!,... I know this will be perfect for you, let it be..... SLYTHERIN!!!"

My mouth dropped open, how could I be a Slytherin?! I thought there had to be a mistake, but I continued over to my perspective table wondering how I got Slytherin. I glanced over at the Gryffindor table all I saw were shocked expressions, Hermione gave me a weak smile as the twins waved slowly. I wanted so badly to go over and sit with them.
