"What rude people, judging someone without knowing their experiences."

Last week was certainly a roller coaster of emotions. I didn't know one was capable of feeling multiple emotions in a day. Mr. Godfrey made me lose words for days with the letter he handed me. Based on my observation, it's hard for me to believe that Mrs. Godfrey agreed with this major decision. She never really liked my presence.

It's my first gathering with the folks in Avonlea and it scares me, the people's opinions particularly. Luckily, the Cuthberts visited for tea a few days ago, during which I made my first friend, Anne. It was interesting to get to know her. I realized we had much more in common than I thought. It's nice to finally find someone who understands who I am and what I've been through. I didn't expect this day to come so soon.

"Oh, Vera!"Are you dressed? We're leaving soon, "Mrs. Godfrey asked, with stress in her tone.

"Yes, Mrs. Godfrey." I descended from the steps, patting the lumps on my dress.

So, how's that? Why aren't you changed yet? "She asked once more.

I don't know what you mean. This is the dress I'm planning to wear. Well, this is the only dress I have, "I said, then she looked at my dress for a quick second.

"Zelda is fine, dear, and that won't do. Come with me, "she grabbed my wrist and pulled me up the stairs.

Did she just tell me to call her Zelda? AGH! This brings me much joy to see that they are slowly starting to be my family. I don't intend to be picky, but I guess it won't hurt to ask her for a different calling.

Mrs. Zelda, does it bother you if I call you... Aunt Zelda? She stopped halfway up the steps to glare at me. Did I say something wrong? I knew asking that would ruin the mood.

"Whatever you want to call me is fine, dear," she smiled.

She led me to a room, which seemed like an old storage room, and took an old but rather exquisite dress out of the drawer. "Here, try this on, and hurry, we don't want to be late," she said, handing me the cream-colored dress. It feels good to finally receive something from someone you truly care about, even if it's just an old dress.

As I descended the steps, Aunt Zelda and Theodore glared at me with a smile. Oh how this feels good, having someone care for you and be amused by you. "You look fantastic, Vera," Theodore said with a smile.

It didn't take long to walk to our destination; it probably took a couple of minutes until I spotted a massive tent which was furnished with seats and treats. Based on Anne's description of the place, it belongs to the Barrys. I heard she's friends with a girl named Diana Barry, which made me wonder if the Avonlea folks aren't that bad after all.
