STOP HATE CRIMES

An incident that happened

In 2019 my bestfriend was planning to move to jamaica(where I live) to get started on his small business.

He had heard (from me) that everyone was accepted where I live as we are "out of many one people." Jun ( let's call him that) decided that he would come down for summer and see how living here is before he moved from korea and I was really happy because he is my bestfriend and we could finally get to be close to eachother.

When he got here he said it was lovely because of how welcoming the staff at the airport was and how everyone treated him nicely and tried to get him to speak our dialect and it was fun for the first month.

It didnt go on like that , I am very disappointed to say , as the people didnt act like that anymore. They started calling him names like mr.chin , ling ling , chini (Chinese) man and others and it made him very uncomfortable because 1.he is NOT Chinese 2.Those are NOT his name 3.Not every Asian person has that name. He decided to look past it (although I was not ready to finish cussing) and ignore the names. It further got to accusing him that he ate certain things like dogs and cats and everytime somebody's pet had gone missing he (along with the other asians in my community) were accused. It sometimes lead to some asians in the community getting beaten and though it wasn't severe and people always stopped it before anyone got hurt it was still draining.

He decided that he didnt want to live here and by the summer ended he went home to study to enter a job field he didnt want. It made me very sad because I was going to miss him and I was not expecting that he'd get treated like that.

After he left I became more aware of the fact that jamaicans think it's a normal thing to do (name calling ,assuming nationality, accusing asians of eating pets) and I was honestly so disgusted and ready to move but I knew it was worst in the places that I had the options to move to.
