Charlie, out of breath and exhausted, collapsed across the finish line. He dragged himself to the bench as his time went up. 28.3 seconds on his 200 meter dash. He came in first. He felt two arms hug him from behind.
“Way to go little bro!”
“I’m not “little”. You were thirteen minutes faster.”
“Still older by comparison.”
“Technicality.” Charlie shot back as he chugged his water bottle.
“Well, your faster now, so that makes up for it.”
“28.3,” He breathed. “I was faster than my record.”
“Yeah you were!” Mary cheered.
“I can’t believe I made it.”
“Did you think you wouldn’t?” She smirked. He knew these words better than he knew his own name. Charlie just smiled and turned around to hug her fully.
“Ewww! No! Gross! You are so sweaty! Someone should hose you down.” Mary yelled as she tried to escape his hug. She eventually stopped trying and he just held her tighter.
