LILY POV
My head was pounding. I didn't want to sit up, nor did I want to pull the covers off of my body. I didn't even want to open my eyes. The light from outside seemed too bright, like it was somehow poisoning me. I wanted to just hide under the covers for the rest of my life, hide in the darkness.
My memory of last night was like a blurry flashback. I could barely remember anything. I remembered getting ready with Marlene and Dorcas. It had been a diverting hour full of makeup, bathroom karaoke, and trying on a lot of clothes. It was nice to dress up for something every once and a while. Though that time didn't come up much considering I had to practically wipe the dust off my leather skirt when I tried it on. I remembered Marlene teaching me how she does her killer eyeliner and Dorcas watching in awe next to me. It was always cute when Dorcas and Marlene admired each other, especially when they pretended not to. It might've made me feel excruciatingly single, but it was cute nonetheless.
"Sirius if you say another word and end up waking her up I'll hit you with my broom." I heard James whisper from outside my bed. I froze. Boys couldn't get up in the girls dormitory, so was I-
I sat up looking at the curtains surrounding my bed. They were the same pattern as mine but the pictures near my bed weren't there. And it smelled so different. Not a bad different, just different. Like wood and something homely. A quite good smell actually. It felt familiar in a good way.
It smelled like James.
All sanity seemed to have left my head. Not only was I extremely humiliated, but I also was the slightest bit curious as to what had happened. Why was I here? What did I tell James? Oh my fucking god. I opened up the curtain on the bed and looked out into their room, feeling an urge to scream. James and Sirius were the only two visible. Remus and Peter were still in bed, their curtains shut tightly.
Sirius's eyes were wide with fear as he looked down towards James. James was laying on multiple red Gryffindor blankets and one single pillow. It didn't look comfortable at all. Had he slept on the floor?
"Lily I promise you, nothing happened. I would never take advantage of you like tha-" James started to say.
"Did I say anything stupid?" I asked, looking down in humiliation.
"You didn't say anything stupid." He said, emphasizing 'say'.
I groaned, "Did I DO anything stupid?" He looked over to Sirius and took a deep breath in.
"Nothing bad. Just some dancing. But I-well I-I dragged you out of the party before you did anything worse." He started to speed up his words. "And please don't hate me I'm so sorry that you're sleeping in my bed but you couldn't walk on your own and I can't go up to the girls dormitory and I didn't know wha-"
"Thank you." I pulled off the covers and patted my dress down. He looked up at me with a small smile forming on his lips. He did look quite cute, even though I didn't want to admit it. His hair was even messier than usual and his glasses were slanted slightly. I combed my hand through my hair and stood up, looking down at him.
"I'm going to go back up to my room. But seriously, thanks James."
"James?"
I rolled my eyes, "Thanks Potter." He laughed lightly, biting his lip. I saw Sirius raise his eyebrows at me but I ignored him and walked out of the room, closing the door softly behind me. I slowly walked up the steps to the girls dormitory shaking the image of James Potter out of my head. I refused to fall harder for him. It wasn't like me at all.
