Yes! I've got more readers, woo! Gracias, people. Gracias. I'm glad you like this. I just want to say thanks for reading so far. I really hope I'm demonstrating how much Caroline doesn't WANT to come back, I didn't really intend for this fanfic to be a quick fix one, that has her humanity back after a couple chapters. To me, that doesn't seem very realistic. Plus, it opens up Klaus a bit more in such a way that I'd love to see him. So I hope you enjoy! And this fanfic WILL include her reaction when she does finally turn it on and how they both handle that. :)

Once Stefan was gone, Klaus approached me. I waited for him to say something, but he remained quiet, watching me. I played along until it started to grate in my nerves. "What?" I snapped. "Aren't you going to ask for my emotions? 'What are you feeling, Caroline?' 'Let me in so I can psychoanalyze you.'"

Klaus smirked, disdained. "No, Love. I'm finished with that. My patience is waning and I've decided to turn to a different route. Now that we no longer need to be concerned of your friends, having severed all ties, you are free."

"You mean as free as the length of your leash you give me. A bit ironic, don't you think? I mean you're the one with the mixed breeding."

"No, what's ironic is Stefan coming to inquire for my assistance in saving you. But perhaps I've approached the wrong angle and instead of targeting a physical response, I want to target an emotional one."

"You know, I really zone out when you start to talk vampire mentality. Oh wait, no. I zone out when you just start to talk, period."

"Well then you should enjoy this next approach." He came closer and before I knew it, he'd yanked me to my feet. His piercing eyes stared deeply into my own and as usual, they were completely unreadable.

"Hit me, Caroline."

I drew back, my eyes widening slightly. "What?"

"Hit me. Slap me. I honestly have no personal preference in the matter. You keep emanating hostility towards me. Now here's your opportunity to really show it off." His jaw visibly tightened. "I can promise you it's not something I permit often."

I bit back a laugh and settled on a chuckle. "You want me to hit you? Seriously? Don't you have any self respect?"

"If I didn't, I wouldn't be offering in the first place."

"You're crazy."

"I'm aware of that widely shared opinion."

But I shook my head, like a master scolding its pet. "No. Because that'll only satisfy you."

I could detect the amusement in his voice as he said, "Yes, because one does indeed feel satisfied after being properly beaten."

I studied him, trying to see past his facade. He didn't look serious. Maybe this was a test. Well if that were the case....

I turned around and then shifted back, my hand blurring as it met with his face.

I caught him hiss but other than that, he was perfectly stoic. When I pulled back to see the damage, I tried to squander my surprise. "You didn't defend yourself," I said. It wasn't a question.

Klaus rubbed his jaw. "Brilliant observation, Love."

As if to provoke him, I ran at him again, from behind and shoved his entire body as hard as I could. The impact knocked him forward and then I was there, sending a bone-shattering kick to his abdomen.

I heard a rib break.

"How was that?" I asked, tone mocking.

He coughed. "If nothing less than a bit sloppy."
