Two Kids at the Lake

You ran far ahead of me,

frolicking through the lush greens.

You brought me along,

saying that you wished to see the world with me.

You smiled,

gently touching my pale, stick-like limbs with your sun-kissed hands.

You took me to the woods,

the woods where you had found me.

Pulling me into your adventures, we walked down with your special path.

The path that leads us to all our adventures.

Where will it be this time, I pondered as we continued.

The breeze became stronger,

the wet smell tickled my nose as the lake's scent washed over me.

I looked at you,

astounded.

You grinned as you saw my face and let go of my hands.

Suddenly, you were in a swimsuit,

ready to explore the waters of this new lake.

I breathed as I looked around,

tall trees blocked the view of the houses,

the lake shimmering like glass,

and there I saw a dock.

Small, worn, and gray.

I made myself over to the dock where I felt the age of the wood,

bending before my weight,

ragged and splintered, yet not enough to hurt.

I quietly sat down and looked upon the mysterious waters.

My hair flying with the breeze as I took off my shoes,

letting them dangle above the water.

It was cold, but the sun shone brightly to bring enough warmth.

I looked over yet I couldn't find you.

Worried, I began to stand.

Only to be stopped by a hand gripping my ankle.

I figured your hand as I sat back down and looked down to see your face.

Smug with delight, playing around with me.

I frown, acting pouty.

You cup some water and flung it towards my face.

Time began to slow,

the droplets glistened like crystals in the air as the lake glowed.

The sky streaked with mystical colors dyed by the sunset,

the clouds puffed up like cotton candy.

You swam in the waters,

fearless of what is to come.

Plants danced to your hums.

The sun smiled brightly with you.

Animals chirped as you laughed.

You had me mesmerized,

my whole being followed you wherever you went.

You were my first for everything.

My first friend, my first family,

the sun to my bleak world of night.

The first day of that world.

I wish our days could never end,

I wish our worlds would never split.

Yet I still wish...

we had never met.

I miss you.
