The three decided it was probably time to head back home. They weren't exactly sure how time travel worked but they had been in the past for hours and going back might have also passed there. If that is the case the adults might get worried that they are not back yet.
They start their walk back to the door. On their way they kept hearing voices say "no way out." They got about halfway to the door when they saw hands and arms coming out of the trees and bushes as well as the ground.

"What the" Alex said. He stepped back as a hand tried to grab him. One grabbed his ankle. "Oooowwww." The touch of the hands felt like someone was holding a bunch of fiery needles to their skin. He pulled his leg away, which was difficult. The hands kept grabbing at the three. "Let's run back to the door."
"Yeah," North said. The tree started running towards the door.
"No way out! No way out!" the voices got louder. "No way out! No way out!"
They were almost to get to the door. There was no actual door, there was just the black void. They were about to walk through. They screamed when the hands grabbed them.
