I swung my legs off my bed and trudged towards the bathroom. Looking at my reflection, my long black wavy hair disheveled and lips chapped. Oh a long bath sounds so nice right now.
"Guys school starts in an hour!" Aunt Pearl yelled from downstairs. "Or a good shower," I mumbled to myself.
Five minutes later I was completely done with myself except for my makeup, which was just pencil and mascara. I tried keeping it to a small amount.
Using my elemental control to my advantage, I am able to easily airdry my body and hair with gusts of wind that I can shoot through my pores or by blowing, and style it with radiated heat from my hands. But now looking at the ends, I'll need to drop my hands' heat by at least 100°.
When I walked out of the bathroom, Felix was leaning on the wall waiting for his turn, dramatically sighing as if he had been waiting for an eternity.
"It's about time," getting off the wall and rolling his eyes at me.
"I didn't even take long!"
"Okay okay you didn't." I was confused as he put his hands on my shoulders. "We can't be mad on our first day of school now can we?" he asked in a baby voice.
"You do realize I'm 18, right?"
"But you're just so fun to mess with," he patted my head, and made his way into the bathroom and I to my bedroom.
"Geez it's like a sauna in here! Thank you for using up all the hot water!" He popped his head out from the bathroom, glaring at me.
"Joke's on you because I heat my own water you peasant!" I continued to walk to my room.
"Peasant?! I could do that too you amateur!" he yelled back.
"Who's the one who needs the wand here?" I called back, smiling to myself.
"STEREOTYPE!" he yelled, clearly offended, and I burst out laughing.
"Hey we have people living on both sides of our house, they're called neighbors!" Aunt Pearl yelled at us from downstairs. "Sorry Aunt Pearl!" we yelled back simultaneously from the rooms we occupied.
After having breakfast, Felix drove us to school in his new car.
During the ride, I couldn't help but feel so nervous that I couldn't control my knee from bouncing. I'd always known that as I grew older " You know you're shaking the whole car," Felix looked over at me.
"I'm sorry, I just feel like I'm going to die from this anxiety." I apologized.
"What's bothering you I'll kill it," he smiled.
"What if someone finds out about me? What if I can't control it? What if I hurt someone?" I started panicking.
Felix pulled over a few blocks from school and turned to look at me. "Hey it's ok. Everything's gonna be fine. I'll be there for you if anything happens I promise." He squeezed my hand.
I smiled at him looking into his bright green eyes. Honestly Felix was gorgeous for a teenager well adult now that he's eighteen. His light skin, long brown hair, muscular build, and sarcastic but great sense of humor was pretty much perfect for a girl.
I mean he's my protective cousin but my only best friend. I couldn't imagine life without him there with me.
He began driving again which got me thinking about what happened before Pearl and Felix came into my life.
"I know you have strong control Giselle. I've seen it, your family taught you pretty well you know-" he stopped himself, realizing his mistake.
I pretended I was looking out the window suddenly interested at my new school and its students. I didn't want him to see me tear up. It was irritating that I couldn't remember anything from the night I lost my family but it still pained me everytime someone mentioned them. "Yeah they were the best. " I whispered.
Felix pulled up in the student parking lot and cleared his throat.
"Well let's get this over with," he got out of the car and jogged to my side to open the door.
"Ah are we trying to make a good impression on the ladies?" I laughed. "What can I say? I'm a gentleman." He smirked.
As we walked up to the school I felt a rush of different kinds of power surge through me. Along with my gifts came with this weird intuition. It allowed me to sense energies and auras, and whether they were a danger or not.
"Do you feel that?" I grabbed Felix's arm for support.
"What is it?" He asked, looking around high and alert.
"I dont know. There's so much power here, it's hard to pinpoint out people that are the same. But I can feel one like yours."
"Another witch?"
"Yeah, I thought Pearl said there weren't any supernatural in Mystic Falls," I said confused.
"Well it wouldn't surprise me if there were a couple of witches in a small town like this. I mean we're like everywhere," he pointed out.
"You mean you and Pearl. I'm not a witch. I'm more like a mutant," I pouted.
"Aww you're not a mutant my little ray of sunshine," he cooed pinching my cheeks.
"You know what if it makes you feel ANY better, I'll give you a species name free of charge,"he grinned and paused for a moment before saying,"you are... G.I. Giselle! Because since you're not a generic witch, you must be government property."
"Aww you're so cute when show how lame you are in public," I coo back pinching his cheeks and then smacked them. "Hey! That-" he began to protest.
"Hi are you guys new here?" a girl with light brown skin and green eyes walked up to us. The witch. "Im Bonnie," she smiled.
"I'm Felix and this is my cousin Giselle," he shook hands with her but when it was my turn she looked at me strangely.
"Are you both witches?" she asked in a hushed tone.
"Um Felix is but I'm not."
"Yeah you don't come off like a witch does, you're something else."
She grabbed my hand again held it. "Oh um okay I'll hold your hand too."
She held it for a few more moments looking like she was in awe.
"Oh im so sorry," she dropped my hand. "I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable or anything."
"No worries it's fine. I get that reaction a lot from witches," I smiled.
Bonnie looked around and then again in a quiet tone,"So you guys know about the supernatural?"
"Yeah we're familiar with witches and spells and circles," I said in a quiet voice too.
"What about the other-" but Felix interrupted her with a loud cough.
They shared a silent conversation between their eyes, and I knew that they knew something I didn't. I was about to ask when Bonnie interrupted, "Well we can talk about that later. Do you want to meet my other friends? They're not witches though but they're something alright."
