A.N. this chapter will probably be weird. first chapters always are. also i think i want to write this in all lowercase because i think it looks nicer...anyways

"hannah, that's it. i'm calling em and having me transfered." frustrated, katie quickly hangs up on her sister, scrolling through her contacts until she reaches emily prentiss.

"hey katie, what's up?"

"hey em..listen i need a favor.."

- one week later -

"i can't thank you enough for this-" katie begins, though she's quickly cut off by emily.

"kate, the bau needed another agent, if anything, i should be thanking you." emily smiles before guiding katie into the large building located in quantico.

"hey spence!" emily call's out, and a tall, smart-looking individual approaches them.

"hi emily, how are you today?" he looks over at katie, "you must be the new agent, i'm dr. spencer reid.." the doctor quickly blushes and stammers, "not t-that you h-have t-to call me d-doctor,"

"what he means to say, is that we're so happy to have you. and you can call him reid." a tall, dark skinned man approaches, along with a very colorful, short, blonde lady.

katie chuckles, before glancing back towards the doctor, before returning her attention to the latest arrivals.

"i'm katie, nice to meet you.."

"derek, derek morgan." say's the tall, dark skinned man.

"penelope garcia, i'm so excited to meet you! i'm sure we'll be great friends-"

"hello, agent heartsmith." another tall man enters the room. katie quickly recognizes him as aaron hotchner.

"hello sir,"

"we're glad to have you here at the bau, i hope you enjoy your time with us"

"thank you si-" katie's interupted mid-sentence, by a call from hannah. she quickly silences the call. immediately recieving a message from her, stating that it was an emergency.

"it's ok agent, meet me in my office once you've finished your phonecall."

"thank you sir," she quickly reaches for her phone and call's hannah.

"you better be fucking dying," katie says, knowing she doesn't mean it, but still annoyed from the interuption.

"calm down katie-kins, im not dying however i need help with this thing for history.."

katie sighs before speaking again,"hannah, we've been over this- you can't tell me somethings an emergency, when it has to do with school. next time you tell me its an emergency, and you arent dying, i'll be sure to change that."

"that's a little harsh don't you think," katie turns around to find herself standing two-feet away from dr. spencer reid.

"if you knew what she considers an emergency, you'd say the same thing," she smiles at him, before returning her attention back to hannah,

"text me what the assignments about, and i'll help you when we i get home." she hangs up the phone, and looks up to the spencer still standing there.

"what was she calling about?" he says, curiosity laced in his words.

"she just needs some help with school, i can deal with it later."

"how old is she?"

"she's 16."

"a sophomore?"

"yep," she replies, though she's unsure of why he's expressing so much interest.

"if you ever need someone to help her with her homework-"

"thank you, but i'm quite capable of helping my sister on my own," she snaps at him. quickly noticing the shift in his expression, and immediately feeling guilty.

"i-i didn't mean it like that reid-"

"it's ok, i get it. but if you ever need an extra set of hands, give me a call." he turns to leave but she quickly speaks again,

"if i'm going to call you, i'm going to need your number." she chuckles, and notices a small blush appear on his cheeks once again.

"o-oh yea, it's um-" he rambles off his number, and katie types it into her phone.

"thank's spencer- can i call you spence?" she feels weird giving a nickname to someone she's just met, but doesn't care. she feels like she's known spencer her whole life, though she's only known him for maybe an hour. she finds it comforting to be in his presence.

"of course," he smiles, before turning around and walking away.

katie knows she can't manage hannah on her own, but she's going to try her best. the thought of people knowing that she goes home every night, and spends hours on end attempting to help hannah understand what she's being taught, is horrifying. they'll want to help, or express their concern, and katie just cannot deal with more of that.

but maybe spencer helping wouldn't be too bad...

emily told her some stuff about each of the members of the team, and she mentioned spencer was a literal genius.

no.

maybe.

no.

she can do this on her own..

but maybe she'll call him..

only if its absolutly necessary.

- at katie's house, later in the day -

"i don't get it katie!" katie's been helping hannah since the second she got home... six hours ago.

"calm down hannah, let's go over this again. starting with the basics, what year did the boston tea party take place?" both of the girls were getting frustrated, neither of them wanted to admit it, but there was no way hannah would learn anything tonight.

"i don't fucking know! this is so stupid, i'm done for tonight-"

"you do not get to talk to me like that-"

"no! you do not get to talk to me like i'm a child. you may be successful, but you're only 6 years older than me-"

"that may be true- but let's not forget the fact that i graduated three years early, because i'm not fucking stupid unlike some people."

the room goes silent.

"hannah i didn't mean that-"

"no you're right. so sorry i can't live up to your expectations." hannah exits the room and rushes up the stairs. after a moment a door slams and katie reaches for her phone.

i'm not going to ask him for help, he doesn't deserve that. i just need someone to talk to.

she scrolls through her contacts, until she arrives at spencer reid. she decides to change his contact name, it makes sense considering she's given him a nickname. she clicks 'edit contact' and changes his name to spence <3.

her thumb hovers over the 'call' button for a moment, before clicking it.

after a moment, he picks up.
