JACK'S POV
I had decided to bring (Y/n) to Burgess for her training, and since the town was still covered in snow I thought that I had an advantage.
However as soon as we landed from the long flight over there, I looked over to see (Y/n) shivering. Before I could offer to help her, a gust of warm wind surrounded her, and the snow underneath her feet melted in about a foot's radius. I had forgotten that North told her about those powers of warmth. She must have been practicing.
She looked over at me and bit her lip guiltily.
"Sorry.."
I huffed, rolling my eyes slightly, then nodded over to lead the way.
I was slowly allowing myself to be soft around her, and it wasn't good. In order to keep my head in the game I had to constantly remind myself that we were opposites. She could easily destroy whatever I made.
We arrived at the lake in Burgess that I frequented, and I flew over to the little shed that was nestled next to the body of water. After digging around for a minute, I found what I was looking for.
"Ice skates?"
(Y/n) gave me a perplexed look as I dangled the shoes by their laces in front of her.
"So you don't get your feet cold and melt the ice," I answered.
"How is ice skating supposed to help me defeat Pitch?"
I raised an eyebrow. "You ask a lot of questions."
She glared at me, then snatched the skates from my hand. As I made my way to the ice, she sat on a rock and tied the laces. Once she was done, she waddled to the edge of the ice, then looked at me for assistance. She looked almost helpless, and although I wanted to just let her figure it out on her own, I knew I'd have to help her.
Floating over to her, I held my hand out for her to take. Seconds later I felt warm fingers wrap around my palm. My heart fluttered, but I brushed it off and brought her onto the ice.
"So, in order to defeat Pitch, you've got to be alert at all times. He's always sneaking up on people and coming in where you least expect it," I explained. "Being on skates will not only allow you to be alert, but allow you to tackle multiple things at once and work on your balance."
I pointed my staff towards the edge of the lake, where a snow sculpture formed from the surrounding air.
"Shoot."
I backed up as (Y/n) gathered warm air within the palms of her hands. She slowly glided her way across the ice, making small strides at first, then larger ones as she became more comfortable and balanced. As she moved, her dress flowed in the chilly breeze.
She finally skidded to a stop about ten feet from the snowman and shot her warm air at the snowman. It melted quickly. I cringed slightly, but kept going.
"Five o'clock! Go!"
As she whipped around, another one of my creations popped up from the wind. It met the same fate as the first snowman.
This happened for another ten minutes, until (Y/n) slowly glided over to me. Her hair was frazzled, and the flower crown on her head was slipping as she bent over, hands on her knees as she panted tiredly.
I titled the topiary hat out of the way to see her face.
"Need a break?"
She huffed a strand of hair out of her face, and nodded.
We moseyed to over to the shed, and as I was helping her take her skates off, I heard a small gasp escape her lips.
"What's up-"
