Kai lay on his bed lazily, almost unmoving for the past half an hour. Listless and bored, he listened to music, scrolled down his feed for kilometres and watched random videos; the usual procrastination stuff. While he did spend the better part of his Sunday daydreaming about Marc, he decided it was a bit too much. Saturday passed by in a flash and he didn't really get any work done.
Thinking about Marc makes him smile. That's just putting it lightly. He's crushing so hard, it ignites his whole being to chaos; the good kind, of course. He wouldn't have it otherwise, anyway. Kai would try his hardest to be his best self with Marc. He's so fresh and pure, he makes him want to be better. Also he makes Kai talk to people, that's something he'd like to cut down on.
Kai hates it when Marc thinks he doesn't fit in and is too weird and uncool. He hates it when Marc thinks of his old place. Other than Books and few others, he doesn't seem to have many fond memories. It makes him want to protect and make him smile all the more. His smile. His cheeky grin. What he wouldn't give to see it more.
Although Kai knows he's wishing for too much and Marc means it in a friendly way, his heart melts with every little thing Marc does with him or for him. Marc is just so... captivating. He loves it when Marc straightens his collar which he forgets to notice sometimes by himself; he knows it annoys him to some extent but the way Marc grins at him after doing it makes him want to show up with a crooked collar every other day. Kai almost melts to a puddle everytime Marc buys double chocolate milkshakes for him. He can't describe how warm and content he feels inside when they're at the rooftop, talking or even standing and gazing in silence. Or when they just chatter away under the vine arbour tunnel after school.
Anything and everything. He remembers and cherishes every moment. From teaching him to bowl, winning him a plushie to getting the eagle key chain. Or even the time Marc stole some of his drink. Or things as simple as working on lab records, discussing questions and doing experiments. Marc's intense expression while playing UNO or how he was more interested in pizza than the movie. It made him remember that dreamy night. Though sleeping in the dark was kind of scary, what he wouldn't give to feel Marc caress his hair again. But just being with Marc is enough, more than he could ask for.
Maybe Kai fell for him because Marc was kind to him, not only now but also when he was closed off and jaded. At first, when he didn't know Marc, he intrigued him. But he found himself falling soon enough. Marc was so patient and didn't give up. The guys don't really mind him being there and not really involve himself in whatever was going on. Or when he'd just like to be by himself. But he feared losing friendships again. He trusted his friends too much. Maybe not getting too close won't hurt as much. He knows the guys won't let him down. He's close to everyone, in a way. However, fear and failure are things that don't really let you go easily. But Marc changed things, he made him 'soft'. That's what he'd like to think.
But what the hell was Friday?
It had to be one of the worst days for him in a while. Everything was going great with Marc for the past few weeks. It was like every day was perfect, making him wish tomorrow arrived faster at night. But first, his alone time with Marc was ruined, which was alright because he got to see Marc play basketball. He is so passionate while playing, it made Kai proud. He was so impressive out there. But Andrei just had to ruin everything.
He won't deny he was glad and relieved the fall did not hurt Marc badly and thankful to Andrei. However, he just hates how confident, cocky and smart assed Andrei is. Such a show-off, Kai scoffed.
Someone recorded the fall, edited it and posted it on their school meme page. They slowed the video and cut it at the right time so it looked like Andrei caught Marc, making it look almost romantic. Kai sneered at that thought. He would hunt that person or persons down and use his bad boy image to persuade them to take it down if he could.
