"I want to ask her to be my girlfriend but there's something in me telling me not to. Maybe it's the fact that we've been best friends for 6 years, I don't know dude. I just want to be able to call her mine though." Luke says frustratedly while unlocking the truck.
"Dude, she likes you, it's pretty obvious." Reggie states as he climbs into Luke's truck. "She'll say yes no matter what. I can't think of any reason she wouldn't say yes. I get that you've been close for so long, but that doesn't mean that something will go wrong because of that. In my opinion, that just makes things easier because you already know everything about each other. There's no chance of awkward getting-to-know-you stories." Reggie explains while pulling his seatbelt on and Luke starts up the truck.
"I know, but will we still be best friends? Will there be a line drawn in the sand of boyfriend things and best friend things? That's where I'm stuck. I don't want to just throw away everything we already have for something new." Luke drives out of the school parking lot and starts the route to the beach.
"Luke, there's no line in the sand. All you'll be doing is putting a more appropriate title on what you currently have. You guys are far more than best friends. Best friends don't make out every night before falling asleep together. I would not do that with Alex or you. You and Olivia are together, you just haven't made it official yet." Reggie states as he slides Luke's Green Day Dookie album into the CD player. Luke just shakes his head as he keeps his eyes on the road.
Luke had spent the entire school day in turmoil over this subject so he decided that after school he would take Reggie out and talk with him about it. He needed to talk out how he was feeling and writing songs wasn't enough at this point.
"Okay, fine. Say I do ask her out? How would I do it? I can't just ask her casually. It's got to be big, some sentimental way that will make her happy." Luke rubs his hand over his forehead with his other hand steady on the steering wheel.
Olivia had left school early with Alex after one of their classes had a field trip. They both decided that just going for the last period of class was pointless and decided to ditch. Alex wanted ice cream so that was how they ended up at an ice cream shop on the beach at 2:30 on a school day.
"It's now been like a month of us sneaking around. It's not even sneaking around. We're clearly in some type of relationship, but we just haven't made it official yet. I know that boyfriend and girlfriend are just titles, but I really want to be able to call him my boyfriend, like officially. Whenever anyone asks what's going on between us, I don't know what to say because we're not exactly just best friends anymore. Best friends don't make out with each other every night before falling asleep together." Olivia puts her face in her hands as Alex eats his ice cream cone.
"Okay, you need to stop stressing out over this. If it really means that much to you and you're tired of waiting, why don't you just ask him?" Alex questions and puts his hand on her shoulder as they stare off at the ocean.
