Clyde
I finally arrived at the party and noticed my best friend, Lincoln. He was talking to Ronnie Anne until he spotted me and rushed over.
"Clyde, I'm so glad you made it." He said.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world. Besides you're my best friend and I would never let anything get in the middle of our friendship." I said making him smile.
"That's why you'll always be my best friend Clyde. Anyway...Where did you go before you arrived here?" He asked.
"I went to visit Lori." I said. Lincoln looked at me with a suspicious eye which was understandable given how I used to obsess over her.
"May I ask why?" He asked.
"To bury my feelings for her. I can't keep chasing after her and I need to find someone who will love me and not throw me away." I said. He looked surprised at that before slouching over in relief.
"That's understandable. Before you told me, I figured that you were going to spend your whole life trying to get Lori to date you and eventually marry you." Lincoln said.
"I admit I was blind to her many flaws, but this incident really opened my eyes on how selfish she really is. I can only imagine how worse it would be if you were left out there longer." I said. It was a scary situation given how he was left in the cold where any number of things could've took his life.
"Yeah. I just wish that I didn't try to lie in the first place." Lincoln said.
"Don't blame yourself. You were swamped with your sister's activities and didn't see another way out. Sure, you could've talked to them, but knowing how they take things it wouldn't do much good." I said.
"In retrospect, what I did was minor than what my sisters and parents did. But then again, they did always blame me and cause trouble without considering how I feel. Don't get me wrong, I still love them, but I'm starting to think if they ever loved me." Lincoln said.
"I'm sure that they did Lincoln, but that doesn't excuse their actions towards you. You're an eleven years old yet have they allowed you to have a child hood and explore what you like or don't like? No. You were forced to babysit your younger sisters, help them with their various tasks, spend time at all of their events, and stop arguments. They even had the gall to blame you for things that they've done and have shown to be incredibly selfish at times. So...maybe it's better to stay away from them for a while so you can have a life without them interfering in it." I said. I could tell that Lincoln took those words to heart. His family did love him, but they did things that made him doubt that they did as well. So many incidents where they selfishly used him to further their agenda.
He knew that his friend was thinking about his sisters and how they selfishly tried to get things that they already had, wanted or even tried to stop Lincoln from getting what he wanted. They even showed up to the McBrides just so they can get more attention which they already had already. So maybe this island is just what he needed to discover himself. While also giving his little sister a second chance to be an actual adult without learning his sister's bad behaviors.
"You're right. I need to get away from them or else I will never be able to discover myself or even make my own decisions." Lincoln said. I hugged him after he said that and wondered if this will give both of us a fresh start.
Celesta
I watched my grandson hug his best friend and hoped that he doesn't end up resenting me from pulling him away from all his friends. Lincoln and Lily need to be somewhere where they could surely shine. Sadly, it couldn't be done here seeing how he would have close contact with his sisters who would do anything to make up with him. Despite this, I don't feel confident that they would live up to their promises.
Another failure on my son and daughter in law which makes me sigh in disappointment. It seems like he let his daughters have free reign of the household and basically destroyed his relationship with his son. Not to mention that he kept that van that was decades old and would require numerous trips to get repaired. A fact that would only waste money and knowing him...he planned to give it to Lincoln.
Speaking of which, I wondered if they ever encouraged their son to follow his talents. Or even helped him find his own. Did they even know his interests or what he likes or dislikes. Probably not. My son has disappointed me on so many levels, but I don't want to keep thinking about it. It would do nothing to help my two grandchildren grow into fine adults and live productive lives.
Especially Lincoln when he realizes that the island will not only give him a chance to grow, but fall in love as well.
Hope you enjoyed the chapter...Bye 👋
