Rita
Dread. That was all that I could feel once I meet my father's gaze. I knew that this was coming, but I never imagined that he would visit on the same day that Lincoln and Lily left Royal Woods. Myrtle was also there as well, but she wasn't focused on me....she was trying to keep Dad calm.
"Rita. Do you know what you just did?" My father said after several uncomfortable moments of silence. I could tell that he was extremely disappointed and angry about what happened. I wanted to stay silent, but that would make him angrier than he already is.
"Yes, but I had a good reason to..." I started to say until my father banged his fist against the table which caused my body to jump a little out of my seat. Myrtle was also startled by this, but tried to keep it together.
"A good reason to kick my only grandson out of the house? A good reason to justify how you basically thought the girls that it's okay to kick anyone out of the house for some petty reason. Rita, there is nothing that you can say to change my opinion on what you and your small minded husband did." Dad stated. I was a little offended that Dad mocked my husband, but I knew that I couldn't argue against him about it. Dad was already mad enough as it is and I didn't want to open up another can of worms. Meanwhile, Myrtle finally turned her attention to me and started to speak.
"Rita, we're just trying to understand what was going through your mind during this entire situation. We also want to understand why you subjected your son to numerous groundings despite not having the full picture of the problem at hand." Myrtle said.
"Sigh...During the incident, I was thinking about protecting my children from Lincoln's bad luck. They had numerous activities that were coming up so I didn't want anything to happen to them." I stated.
"So that justifies making your son miserable?" Dad asked.
"If you put it like that...then no. It doesn't excuse what I did to my son...if he still wants to be related to me that is." I said.
"Can you really blame him, Rita? You constantly let the girls get away with everything just for some praises and trophies." Dad said.
"That's not true. I've never let those things blind me." I stated.
"Really? Then why did you ignore Lynn's good luck rituals and allowed your infant daughter to sleep next to dangerous chemicals which constantly explode if done incorrectly." Dad said.
"I allow them to keep doing that since they help them with furthering their careers." I stated with a nervous chuckle.
"Really? So you allow them to endanger the lives of others in order to further their careers. Not to mention that you hardly teach them right from wrong due to your lax parenting with them." Dad said.
"Lynn and I aren't lax with them. We do punish them." I stated.
"So you punish them more than Lincoln?" Dad asked.
"Well..." I started to say until Myrtle awkwardly coughed and placed her two cents in.
"Rita, I may not be as involved in your family matters, but even I can tell that you allowed your daughters to run the household. I mean...What kind of parents let their children talk them into kicking their sibling out in the cold?" Myrtle said.
"We may have dropped the ball on that, but Lynn and I have managed to..." I started to say until I paused. What have Lynn and I manage to do with the girls? We did punish them sometimes, but it seems like they hardly changed after them. Almost like they knew that we wouldn't dare punish them again.
"By your expression, I can tell that you're realizing just how you failed your children. Rita, our job as parents is to make sure that your kids are ready for the real world. I had hoped that your mother and I succeeded in that, but it seems that we went wrong somewhere." Dad said. I could feel the ping in my heart as he said this...Mom would've been ashamed that I allowed this to happen to her precious grandchildren. I was about to speak more, but then a guard came.
"Visiting hours are over."The guard stated. Dad and Myrtle got up to leave, but before they left...Dad turned towards me and said something that will forever stick to my mind:
I hope that your time here will help you change because knowing Lincoln...he would still offer a chance of forgiveness despite everything that you put him through.
Leni
I was walking down the street while trying not to think about the angry glares that were coming my way. My brother was gone and I couldn't stop blaming myself for his departure. I mean...I was one of his sisters that he was close to and I failed in being a good role model for him and my younger sisters. Shaking my head...I quickly sat down and placed my head in my hands.
This was a nightmare. Our hopes and dreams were ripped away from us and our siblings are somewhere else...probably having more fun with people who would never treat them like we did. I wish that I could talk to them once more and apologize, but they probably wouldn't want to see my face. I wanted to stay at the bench and think about the numerous ways that we took Lincoln for granted, but my phone started to ring. So with a heavy heart, I quickly answered it and got scolded by Lori. I should've told her where I was going, but that's okay....
We all need time for ourselves anyway to reflect on what we did. Besides it's not like we can reverse time to stop ourselves from kicking Lincoln out anyway.
Hope you enjoyed the chapter, Bye 👋
