Chiron's head dipped and he sighed, as if he knew something we didn't. "I knew this was coming." He gestured for us all to sit. Huh, I was right. "Well," he said gruffly. "Let's hear it, and get it over with"
Skylar and "Rachel" exchanged a look. A look I knew all to well, something was wrong. What else was new. First, the Fire Phoenix, than the map, what was up this time?
"Get what over with?" I ask, "And who is she?" I ask, pointing at Rachel. Everyone looked at me and once again realized I was still new. This made Rachel frown.
"I'm Rachel," She said, putting out her hand for me to shake it. I did. "I'm the camp's oracle."
"What's an oracle?" I asked suspiciously, she look like a normal teenage girl to me. Except for her jeans were covered in sharpie scribbles, I guess she's an artist. "Like the oracle of Delphi?" Hey, we learned greek mythology in school last year.
"Yeah, Exactly!" She said, surprised. Something about that rubbed me the wrong way. "I actually got my powers from her. I'm the living spirt of Delphi." She said, all proud and stuff. Was this it, the kinda thing "Demi-Gods" and magical creatures bragged to each other about. If it is, I want out!
"Oh, Ok." I shrugged as If it were no big deal. That was when Hyacinth decided too jump in.
"Yeah! And Kay is actually a Blaise." She looked Rachel right in the eye and smirked. I like this girl a lot more now than I did 3 days ago.
"I know," Rachel replied curtly. Everyone gave her a weird look, and then she explained. "After Skylar . . . Woke Up . . . She . . . Well . . . I don't really know." She said, biting her lip. " I . . . She . . . thinks something was . . . Ummm . . . Triggered? Well anyways, she went to find find me . . . To explain."
"Explain what?" I asked, not convinced. "And what does she mean by triggered?" I looked to Skylar, who had stayed silent to whole time. She was staring into the distance and toying with the friendship bracelet I had noticed earlier, on her wrist.
Chiron cleared his throat and she snapped back to reality with a jump. "Sorry" she muttered under her breath. She looked up at us all staring at her. "What?" she asked wearily, as If she already knew the answer.
I swallowed and spoke first, "What happened, why did you go see Rachel?"
Skylar took a deep breath, "If your all gonna know what happened, I should start from the beginning." She looked directly at me and sighed, but continued none the less. "At the beginning of the summer, after Percy - I assume you've meet him - made the demand for more cabins to be built for the children of the minor gods, I came to camp. It didn't take long for me to figure out my heritage. I was the daughter of Iris, goddess of the rainbow. After that, I found out I had siblings, and I . . . I was happy. WE, were happy." Skylar paused and drew in a shaky breath.
"Then, Clovis arrived. He was the first child of Hypnoses we'd ever had, and being the inexperienced, happy go lucky, fool I was. I signed up to help build the cabin. I happened to be on painting duty, I was in the cabin all day, painting every aspect of it. On the last day, I showed up early when no one was there so I could get an early lead and finish before lunch. I stepped inside the cabin and I knew immediately something was off. I sort of sleepy aura hung around the cabin. I though that was natural, and Clovis had been around previously. He had a reputation of making people fall asleep just being in his presence. I was wrong." A single tear slid down Skylar's face.
"There was a small bed set up in the corner. Again, I assumed Clovis had been there. That's when the drowsiness started. I thought I had just woken up to early, and that I want to go back to bed. So did. I laid down on the bed and I was out. They found me the next morning. I was in a coma. But It wasn't just a coma" Skylar shivered, even though it was 86º outside.
"I . . . I saw things. I . . . I saw you" She looked directly at Kay.
"Me?" I sputtered. I had kinda figured this, the dots needed to connect themselves somehow. But hearing it said out loud made it real.
"Yeah," she said softly. "You . . . you were inside my head. I could see what you were seeing. And I . . . I helped you."
I gasp, adding to the effect. "Wait, That was you!" Everyone looked at us in confusion and I blushed. "The day I was taken to Camp Half Blood. I was attacked by a Fire Phoenix as most of you know, and I killed it before It could hurt anyone. But It wasn't me who knew how to kill it. There was a voice in my head, It . . . It was telling me what to do. Like how to swing a sword, and when to move out of it's way. And it happened once again when I battled Clarrise."
Rachel interrupted me, "You battled Clarrise!" She said, unable to hide her shock. Again, this rubbed me to wrong way. I decided not to show it.
"Uh . . . Yeah. And I won. Anyways, after that, I came here. Chiron and Hyacinth explained to me what I was, And I went up to the attic and got the map need to go on my . . . 'Quest'."
"You just need a prophecy," Said Skylar. She stood up and held out two hands. One to Rachel, and one to me. We booth took it. Skylar eyed the space in between us and we grudgingly held hands.
Suddenly, We all started to glow. I could feel my vision clouding over. And by the way everyone was moving their heads back and forth - as If they were at a tennis game - Skylar's eyes had done the same thing. Then, Rachel - who had stayed pretty normal appearance wise - through her head back, and vivid green smoke started pouring out. And than the floating happened. Me and Skylar tried desperately to let go, but Rachel held our grasps with uncanny strength.
Then, She started to speak . . .
"Three shall come on this very quest
The red, the saytr, and one with restA bird born in fire and flame
Has only one, god to blame""There is a new Blaise,
This bird knows
And to no extent
Damage and woes""In order to make it through the week
Just as things seem so bleak
The bird must bleed from lead and pain
To prevent the never ending rain""And before it all comes crashing down
Life comes from the ashes, reborn
Back to camp, safe and sound
Follow these steps of you'll surely drown"The earlier green smoke subdued and we slowly floated to the ground, once again. We all stood there, in shock for a while. Then, Rachel broke the ice.
"You guys should get going now." She pursed her lips, "Tomorrow is Monday, the first day of the week. You guys need a head start."
Chiron looked on the fence about letting us go so soon. So I spoke up, "I think it's a good idea," I say to everyone's surprise.
Chiron sighs, "You've had no proper training, you don't even have a weapon, and Skylar just got out of a coma. You guys aren't the best, preparation wise."
"Then get me one," I said simply.
"Get you one of what?" Chiron asks quizzically.
"A weapon" I shrug my shoulders and stare at Chiron, hoping he doesn't see just how scared I am on the inside.
Chiron's eyebrows scrunch up, and I see just how close I am too winning. I can't back down now, So I play my ace. I look up and say as neutrally as I can,"And If It helps I could get Annabeth and Skylar too show me a few things before we leave, " I said as helpfully as humanly possible, maybe more. Which would make sense, considering I'm apparently no longer completely human. Or ever was.
Chiron stares at me for a minute, and gives in. "Fine," He says grumpily. "Skylar and Hyacinth will go take you to the shed to find a weapon for you, and Rachel will go find Annabeth and tell her to prepare the arena for Kay and to be there when she arrives." With that, he rolls back into the big house, leaving us all alone on the porch.
Rachel gives us one last glance before jumping off the porch and running into the distance. Skylar and Hyacinth both look at me.
"Let's go find me a weapon," I shrug and jump off the porch once again.
